Travel Food Family Who says you have to settle down when you have kids? Follow our adventures as we forget to be sensibl Join us for the ride!

Five years ago Josh and I met, made a baby, and decided to forget security and stumble along on our own path. April (4) and Charlie (1) are tagging along on whatever adventures come our way. With my head in the clouds and Josh's feet on the ground, we usually manage somehow. Our newest chapter began in January 2014 when we moved to Langebaan, a coastal village near Cape Town, South Africa. Now we're attempting to live one day at a time, play more and figure out how to keep afloat.

When the fog clears

Sometimes writing about one's self is a slog. Other times it's a joy.

I have been feeling remarkably grateful of late. Sure, the sun is warmer and greenery is beginning to dominate the landscape, but there’s more to it than that. I finally feel that I’m not chasing a…

Never Settle - Travel Food Family

One of my recent resolutions is to spend more time writing good, polished material. Pieces that I'm proud of. It felt wonderful to write this.

We sat on his single bed, side-by-side and talked about what we would be doing that summer. Rectangles of light cut through the blinds and across his cheek, his pale green eyes glinting as he described his summer job, out on the lake, weaving between islands, eating lunch on the jagged brush and nee…

Mussel Picking in Scarborough - Travel Food Family

Mussel picking is a fantastic activity, especially when it’s too chilly for sandcastle building or swimming. It gives the grown ups a mission, and a reason to go hopping around on the slippery rocks. Plus you get to eat your pickings later on. Yum!

I could say that it’s getting cold here, but that would be a lie. It is cold. It was so cold one day last week,Continue Reading

Hiking Lion’s Head or Cape Town is the Most Beautiful City in the WorldPosted onMay 14, 2014 by laurenjaneinBlog. Scratch Patch: A Gem of an Outing in Simon’s Town | Travel Food Family

Imagine going to a place filled with gemstones where you can sort through them and pick your favourites. Now imagine doing that when you're small enough that colourful stones are magical. I couldn't resist taking a million photos. Such a fun activity!

I remember the thrill of going to the Scratch Patch when I was a kid, and didn?t forget it one Saturday morning a few weeks ago when Josh was helping out at a sailing regatta in Simon?s Town.

Raw Kale Salad | Healthy Harvest House - HHH

I've already said that kale is my favourite. Well, here's another recipe I love.

Until this summer I had never made salad with kale. I always thought it was too bitter, until a friend told me that the bitter taste resides in the stems. Get rid of the stems and the leaves are sweet and flavourful.

Meditation Meanderings: Week Two

I'm doing the tuja wellness 30-day meditation challenge and writing about my experiences for their website. Let's just say this week reminded me why I need to meditate.

Training, time and perseverance: Lauren Jane likens meditation to marathon running when she weighs in on the second week of tuja's 30-day meditation challenge.

Go Coconut Crazy | Healthy Harvest House - HHH

One of my latest for Healthy Harvest House. What do you use coconut oil for?

Research suggests that the average woman takes in about five pounds of chemicals through her skin every year from makeup alone! And if that’s the case, wouldn’t you rather be cleansing and moisturizing with edible oils than toxic chemicals?
