'Ken Norton is the toughest man I have faced. He hit me more times than I’ve ever been hit before and I was in great condition. I moved for 12 rounds, more than I moved in any of my fights.' - Muhammad Ali

'Ken Norton was always nice to me even when I was just an amateur fighter. He always treated me like I was somebody. Remarkable man.' - Mike Tyson

'If he ever went broke, I'd sell one of my houses and give him the money if he needed it. I owe everything to what Ken Norton did for me.' - Bill Slayton

'They said Muhammad Ali was pretty but you didn’t want to take your shirt off around Kenny Norton because he would embarrass you. It was a frightening thing to look across the ring at him and see all those muscles staring back. He was also a far better boxer than he showed in his fight with me, and proved it against Muhammad and Larry Holmes.' - George Foreman

'He wasn't sure if he could kick my a--, and I wasn't sure if I could kick his a--, so we just remained buddies and never fought each other. We figured that unless the money got to that breaking point, it was best to remain friends. It would have been a rough fight, and I don't really know if l would have won; but let's just say I probably have a little more use of my brain today because I didn't have to fight Ken Norton!' - Joe Frazier

'I've always thought that Norton won all three of his fights with Ali, and I thought he had a bigger margin at Yankee Stadium than in the other two. I gave him nine of the fifteen rounds.' - Eddie Futch

'He hit hard, I mean real hard. I didn’t want to get hit, and that was one of the reasons why I danced and moved. He was probably the hardest puncher I fought outside of Earnie Shavers.' - Larry Holmes

'Emanuel Steward turned me pro and he was the best trainer any man ever had, he taught me everything I know about boxing and about life. He was like a father to me.
I was always a tall, lanky fighter and he taught me how to keep a man at distance, to use my long reach, so I get the time to do what I wanted to do. With my style of fighting, sometimes it's hard to predict what I am going to do. My left jab was so strong that I didn't have to be an inside fighter.
Emmanuel was a tactical man, he checked out everything and made sure I was in perfect condition every time I was there. He was just straight up boxing. For a big fight, there would be seven weeks hard training and we would spar eight to 10 rounds a day. I learned so much, like the things you have to watch out for.
I was winning by knockout almost every time, but it didn't really surprise me. I had the punch, but I was under-estimated because I was skinny. They figured they could take advantage of me and that played into my hands in the early part of my career.'

George Foreman's most famous victory is undoubtedly that against Joe Frazier in 1973 to become world heavyweight champion.
But after being stripped of his crown by Muhammad Ali, the Texan delivered in 1976 against Ron Lyle a duel of rare intensity. A Ron Lyle who came back from much further than him. This fight of January 24, 1976 between George Foreman and Ron Lyle does not however occupy such an enviable place in the collective memory. It is nevertheless a monument! A real one, a big one.
5 rounds will be enough to immortalize it.
Elected "fight of the year 1976", he also remains famous for his incredible 4th recovery, one of the most extraordinary of all time, all categories combined.
Ring Magazine, a reference in the field, has designated it the 6th greatest round in the history of boxing.

"A lot of it was the mental part of it. Ali defeated everyone mentally first. With Frazier, Ali had him so mad Joe was trying to kill him with every shot. With Foreman, he tried to kill him with every shot. Mentally, Ali could not defeat me and physically I felt I was as much a physical power as Ali was. He couldn't upset me in any way and plus, I had Eddie Futch. Eddie knew how to fight Ali. You can't go to the head with him. You have to go to the body first and then eventually he will bring his hands down and lower his head." - Kenny Norton

"When I was a boxer in the 1970s, I was punched in the face by Joe Frazier, knocked out by Muhammad Ali, and knocked down a few times by Ron Lyle before I got up and won. All the fights had one thing in common: when they were over, I couldn't remember the pain. I forgot about my weak knees, the cuts, the blood in my eyes.
Without the films of my fights, I would have completely taken them out of my mind. It's the same thing when you're going through tough times: Don't let pain and disappointment lodge inside. - George Foreman

🗣️ "I made a lot of money from those
fights but more than that, I made a great friend and we'll go down in history as one of the greatest trilogies in boxing.
I was just so fortunate when he was living to be able to fight him and say he was my friend because he was a great person, a great champion and just a great guy.

🥊 “Muhammad amazed me; il admit it. He out thought me; he out-fought me. On that night he was just the better man in the ring. Before the fight, I thought I’d knock him out easy. One round, two rounds. I was very confident. And what I remember most about the fight was, i went out and hit Muhammad with the hardest shot to the body I ever delivered to any opponent. Anybody else in the world would have crumbled. Muhammad cringed; I could see it hurt. And then he looked at me; he had that look in his eyes, that’s the main thing I remember about the fight…..After the fight, for a while I was bitter. I had all sorts of excuses….. I should have just said the best man won, but I’d never lost before so I didn’t know how to lose. I fought that fight over in my head a thousand times. And then, finally, I realised I’d lost to a great champion; probably the greatest of all time. He won fair and square, and I’m just proud to be part of the Ali legend. If people mention my name next to his from time to time, that’s enough for me. That, and I hope Muhammad likes me, because I like him. I like him a lot.”

George Foreman.
