Bremerhaven was the busiest port for emigrants leaving Europe between 1830 and 1874. The Deutsches Auswandererhaus is an award-winning experiential museum with an average of 180,000 visitors per year, making it one of the most visited museums in Germany. It not only portrays the emigration flow overseas but also 330 years of immigration history to Germany.

At the entrance, visitors will receive a boarding pass with which they can listen to real-life stories at audio stations. The museum tour is a journey through time from 1870 to the 1920s with lots of replicas, real documents, and amazing expositions. Visitors get the full experience from the Norddeutscher Lloyd departure waiting hall, the passage on typical emigrant ships, arriving at the Ellis Island US immigration station and finally the Grand Central Terminal in New York.

There is only one part of Hamburg that you cannot reach by public transportation, car, or bike.

It’s Neuwerk - an island located 120 km (75 miles) from Hamburg which belongs to the city. From the coast, it’s only 15 km (10 miles) out in the North Sea and you can reach it by horseback, horse carriage, or walking. Neuwerk is part of the Wadden Sea Natural Reserve also.

While Neuwerk was strategically important in the medieval to fend off pirates and as a marine port, today it almost entirely serves as a wildlife habitat and tourist destination. Neuwerk’s est. 21-25 inhabitants occupy a surface of ca. 2 x 2 km (ca. 1.5 x 1.5 miles). The lighthouse, finished in 1310, accommodates visitors today.

Join us for the unique Hanseatic Pearls eco-cultural tour and experience a carriage ride through the Wadden Sea Biosphere Reserve to the island! Details & Reservations: https://www.accessecotours.com/hanseatic-pearls-tour/

You’ll be surprised about how much you can do on the island of Rügen in October. Rügen in the autumn offers a mix of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and a peaceful ambiance with fewer tourists. The island's beech forests with their vibrant red, orange, and yellow hues create a picturesque landscape, and spectacular views are possible from the panoramic tower at the Granitz Hunting Lodge, a 19th-century castle located within a biosphere reserve. It’s also the start of the Baltic amber season when the ocean conditions change and facilitate washing more of these precious fossils ashore.

And hey, maybe you are lucky and take one home when you join the Hanseatic Pearls roundtrip – an eco-cultural tour along the two coastlines of Germany!

Did you know that the Speicherstadt in Hamburg, built between 1883 and 1927, is the largest warehouse district in the world? And that the interconnected brick buildings sit on oak pile foundations? The Speicherstadt is crisscrossed by a network of narrow canals reminiscent of Venice, earning it the nickname "Venice of the North."

Only in 2015, this remarkable architectural masterpiece with its unique blend of Gothic Revival and neo-Renaissance styles was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A bustling hub of international trade in the Hanseatic days, the Speicherstadt now is a vibrant cultural landmark, housing museums, theaters, cafes, and shops; attracting visitors from around the world.

Want to experience this and other historically significant places for yourself? Join us for the Hanseatic Pearls tour in October 2024, as we track some of the most stunning Hanseatic cities along Germany’s coast!
