Comments - Early in the morning we arrived at Mount Rushmore. Daddy thought that we were not going to see anything because it was so foggy but once we arrived it turned out that the fog cleared, we could see! We hopped out and went to discover. It was very cool and interesting, we went in to the visitors center and watched a little movie and learned some weird facts. Elinor got a key chain in the gift shop. We drove to the Bad Lands National Park and got out at a lookout the rocks and colors were very cool. Daddy saw a lot of signs for a place called Wall Drug so he took the exit and we went exploring the Wall Drug was like a market and they had a backyard that had some cool pictures places. We did some more driving and we arrived at a boat launch that we stayed the night. Almost there!

Activities – Becoming thankful customer of Big Sky Tire & Service Co (Nicholas and Kelly) who not only drove to Billings (50min each way) to pick up a new a/c pump and stayed open late on a Saturday to install it but let us hang out in Artemis in their garage to escape the 40C heat for the day, dinner and swimming in Lake De Smet, discovering that Sturgis Bike Week is now, driving around two truck stops to unsuccessfully find a spot to sleep, randomly turning down a gravel road and finding a perfect campsite just off the road, sleeping like a brick.
Comments - We got at the mechanic's early and hung out while they did a great job. After we were all fixed up we drove to get some miles in and finally stopped for a swim at De Smet Lake, it was perfect and refreshing we kept on driving and tried to find a place to sleep, it did not work out very well but finally we found a place. It was just perfect!

Traveled to – Hardin, MT
Distance Traveled – 425km
Total Trip Distance Traveled – 12519km
Sleeping Location – Grandview Campground & RV Park
Activities – Extinguishing flaming alternator, becoming thankful customer of Ken's I-90 Repair, Columbus, MT, unplanned bicycle tour of Columbus, MT, lunch at Whistle Stop Cafe, Columbus, MT, swim in Yellowstone River at Columbus MT, visit Columbus MT Public Library, visit Museum of the Beartooth, Columbus, MT, seized a/c compressor pump, Hardin, MT, Playing pool and Uno Jenga in campground games room (A/C!!!) Movie Night #2, McDonalds Ice Cream, review of Montana immigration procedures, hot and uncomfortable sleep
Comments - After a couple of hours of driving, Daddy smelled some thing unusual, he took the next exit and pulled over, he got out and popped the hood. Flames were licking the hood! It turned out that Artemis made her very own campfire off the alternator! Daddy grabbed some water and told us to get out, we hopped out and kept calm until Daddy got the fire out. Thankfully, we found a mechanic that could work on Artemis. We drove Artemis to the mechanic and got her settled in. We took the bikes and went for a tour around Columbus. We went to a bunch of stores and restaurants, for lunch we stopped at Whistle Stop Cafe an older restaurant that was delicious, then we went to a library to relax in an AC room and play. We went for a swim in the Yellowstone River where we saw our first snake of the trip, the rocks were very slippery and it did not get very deep fast, not our favorite. Last but not least, the Beartooth Museum, the museum was like Orwell Corner but personally I thought, better. Elinor got a little rock as a souvenir. We went back to the mechanic shop and discovered that the reason of the fire was that the alternator over heated. We got back on the road and drove a bit more when Daddy realized that he needed gas, after he filled up he popped the hood just to make sure and the belt fell off. Luckily there was a campground just across the road and we bought a site. Unlucky, it was Friday night and nothing was open tomorrow or the next day. Daddy had a quick search and found someone he called them and they could see Artemis tomorrow! That night we explored the campground and found an AC games room we played some board games and pool. We found a McDonalds and went for some ice cream. Then we got started with our #2 movie night. That night was very hot and we had an uncomfortable sleep.

Activities – Morning swim in Rose Lake, Route of the Hiawatha mtb ride, swim #2??
Comments - At the dispersed camping there was a lake, Rose Lake it was very murky so I did not want to swim but I hopped in anyways! It was not very enjoyable. After a bit of driving we arrived at a place that Daddy found, the Hiawatha Trail, a big 16 mile gravel trail that goes through 7 tunnels and on 10 bridges. Then if you want you can take a shuttle bus back up (we did that)! It was a school bus so reminded us of the back side at the chalet. We had a very nice driver that was also a guide, there was some very interesting facts about the Hiawatha Trail. We can't seem to remember the swim #2 but oh well. The Walmart that we stayed at was the same one that we stayed at on the way there, which was cool, we ran in and grabbed some stuff and when Daddy returned we were all shot so we all slept well.

Comments - We made breakfast at the rest stop and I found a swimming place, the Yakima River at Hanson Ponds Park. It was very fun floating down the rapids! After a bit of driving we arrived at a park that Daddy found. Once we were parked, we explored downtown, we saw lots like waterfalls, a clock tower, a cool playground, a very big red wagon that they turned into a slide and monkey bars, a carousel from the expo 74, a skate ribbon and a splash pad. Spokane was certainly a highlight for me. In Coeur d'Alene we found a place to go for a night swim. it was just perfect for that time of day and place. After that me and Elinor finished our game of cards. After a bit more of driving Daddy pulled over at a dispersed camping spot. Perfect Day!

After some fun laser tagging we headed out on the boat, I got to drive for a bit and we played a game of exploding kittens. We stopped for a swim but nether me or Elinor wanted to get in because we were cold. When we got back we had to head out to catch the ferry, we said our good byes and off we went. The ferry ride was perfect and again we ate on the ferry. We stopped at a rest stop for sleep.

Comments - In the morning we went to Long Beach (again I know not very creative) to set up a day plan and eat. We decided that we wanted to hike so we picked out 2 hikes, first we went to the Rainforest trails (A and B) there was some big trees and it was very mossy. It was all board walk and a nice easy walk. All these beautiful places (Long Beach and Rainforest Trail) are in the Pacific Rim National Park. Then we went to Cathedral Grove Near Port Alberni, that Grove has some very big and beautiful trees. It was a wonderful hike! Elinor saw this market in Comox in her book that had goats on the roof. So we decided to go check it out. We could not see the goats at the start but after a bit of looking we found them, they were very friendly. When we arrived at the Fitzpatrick/Kadhi Residence's house we went for a tour of the waterfront, Wilf, Elinor and me found a very nice park and explored it. After we got back the parents went for a sauna and the kids had a movie night! Great camping!

After breakfast we played soccer with Daddy, Wilf, Adam, Indi and I joined later while Elinor and Victor made forts and played. The other team won (Daddy, Wilf and Dan). After that we headed to Tofino, we walked and explored a lot of gifts shops, an art gallery and the grocery store with donuts. Lastly we headed for a nice relaxing night again at Kennedy Lake. We ate supper and went for a swim, that was a very memorable swim for me like all this trip!

Comments - In the morning we drove to a cliff jumping place 5 minutes away from our sleeping location. Me and Elinor dunked in a little pool while Daddy did the big jump. I found a place that I was comfortable with and jumped in the water, it was very chilly and I was nervous jumping in the first time but after that I found a better place that was a bit higher. I jumped a few more times ad got out because I was cold. Elinor jumped and it was very cold but I think she had fun. We got in the car and started the drive to Ucluelet. As we were driving in Ucluelet we spotted a freestyle motocross demonstration that was part of a Ucluelet festival. We pulled over and watched the rest. It was very cool to watch! After that we went to a surfing store and looked around. At the surfing store Wilf got some knee pads and elbow pads for his new skate board. Then we walked around Ucluelet and saw a market, a playground, a aquarium (it was closed sadly) and we went in a gift shop. Me and Elinor both got magnets at the gift shop. After that we headed to a lighthouse near Ucluelet, at the lighthouse there was three deer just wandering around. We then drove to long beach, that is where I dunked first in the pacific ocean. It was very cold and we did not stay long. Finally we headed to our sleeping location, Kennedy Lake, we went for a swim before supper and it was very refreshing. For supper we had left over shrimp and bacon wrapped hot dogs. Before bed we went for a night swim. The sunset was beautiful!

After the traffic mix up we met up at Cameron Lake. Most of us hoped in the water for a quick dip. After our swim the kids had a freezie break. Guess what, after Cameron Lake we saw a bear! It was a young black bear! The first time just Daddy saw it but the second time after he backed up, me and Lydia saw the bear, Daddy was about to leave but at the last second Lydia saw it! It was a very cool sight! We arrived at our sleeping location, Mercer Creek, it was a very cool place with a waterfall and lots of rocks. It was very cold water but most of us went swimming anyway. After supper we did a bit of Mad Libs and went to bed.

Once there was power we left for Williamson Lake, we were all very hot so we jumped out of the car and hopped in(with our bathing suits on)! There was a little raft that you could jump off and it was colder out of the water than inside. In Kamloops we went for a swim at Riverside Park there was a river and a very cool splash pad with water slides and a park in the splash pad. At the campground that we stayed at there was a lake we went for a swim and explored the campground on our bikes.

Comments - After a bit of driving we went to Kootney national park, we stopped at a hike called paint pots, we discovered at the end of the out and back hike, the reason it was called that, there was a bunch of mineral dirt that was orange (as you an see in the pictures) that kind of looked like pots. In Radium they took the hot springs and transferred them to the pool to make a big hot tub. There was also a cold pool and cold plunge. It was a very relaxing experience. When we arrived in Revelstoke we biked around the city. After supper we went for a very buggy walk with Adam's family and Dan's family.

Activities – Swimming in Bow River, Biking to Lake Louise, lunch at Chateau Lake Louise, Swimming in Bow River, Laundry, Swimming in Bow River, Swimming in Herbert Lake, Swimming in creek which fed into Bow River
Comments - New record, 5 swims in a day! We drove to the bow river and went for a dip. It was freezing (the first time) and there was quite a current but it was fun to hold on to a rock and let your feet float behind you. We biked to Lake Louise from the bow, it was all up hill and was quite a work out. We had lunch at the Chateau in Lake Louise after some touring around. Luckily the patio had just opened 20 minutes ago and we got a shady spot outside. I got chicken fingers and fries, the fries were deliciously salty and the chicken fingers amazingly fresh. Lydia had pasta with meat sauce like at the Wallhouse, the meat sauce tasted like the vegetables were just grown and blended together. And because it was on the kids menu the pasta was shaped like dinosaurs. Last but not least is Daddy had a meatball sandwich, he said it was very tasty. After we biked back we went for a other swim, it oddly seamed less cold. We found a laundry mat and did some laundry. While we were waiting for the laundry we went exploring and yet for a other swim. We stopped at Herbert Lake and made supper, after supper we went for are second last swim for the day. Me and Lydia explored earlier and found a good swim spot, it was just the right temperature and there was no one at that spot. I promise last swim of the day, it was a creek at our campground that was VERY chilly and I had enough of swimming for that day!

In Canmore we went for a bike ride it was a bit confusing because it was not well marked but in the end we had a good ride. Right across from the biking spot there was a lake so we went for a swim, it was pretty chilly and it was paddle board central but it was incredibly refreshing. That night we stayed and hung out at the overflow camping in Lake Louise with Dan, Adam and family.

There was a good place across the street so me, Mommy and Lydia went shopping while he was cutting his hair. Mommy got a message that her flight was not actually canceled so we ran her to the airport but did not make it. We decided to go visit Ginny and Jim, Mommy was going to stay over night so she could catch her flight. We said our good byes and drove to the Walmart for the night.

Activities – Swimming and horse-back trail riding
Comments – I was so excited to get on the road today because my request for this trip was to do a horse-back trail ride and Mommy booked a sunset ride for us!
Today was a long day of driving but we had a couple of longer stops to stretch our legs. We crossed into Canada and were able to pull into Waterton National Park, Alberta with enough time before our trail ride to make supper and swim.
We were fortunate to be the only ones booked for the sunset trail ride. I rode the largest horse, Sadie. She was very tall and compliant, unlike Mommy’s horse, Bud who insisted on eating grass at every opportunity.
Lydia got a bit wet but the river crossings were totally worth it! Today was definitely memorable, for all of us!

Distance Traveled – 284km
Total Trip Distance Traveled – 6263km
Sleeping Location – Walmart, Bozeman, Montana
Activities – Sightseeing, Geysers, Hiking, Biking and Swimming!
Comments – We planned for a large day of sightseeing as we wanted to get to many highlights of Yellowstone National Park. Did you know that Yellowstone was the first National Park in the world!
We started the day heading to Old Faithful, the Geyser that is the most predictable in terms of time to erupt in the park. This geyser sends boiling water into the air between 18-23 feet every 90 minutes.
We also went in to visit the Old Faithful Inn, built spanning 1903 & 1904, the inn is the largest log structure in the world.
Next, we went for a little bike ride to see the Lone Star Geyser, off the beaten path. Luke said we really needed to get off into some trails to really see Yellowstone.
While biking we ran into a couple from Montreal and were able to practice our French. Mommy was more excited about this than Lydia and I were.
The Norris Geyser Basin is named for Philetus Walter Norris, second superintendent of Yellowstone from 1877-1882. He recorded hydrothermal features of the area and was instrumental in road construction within the park, some of these roads we traveled on today.
Lydia and I were trying to complete the Junior Ranger booklets and part of the activities were to visit the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. On my insistence, we walked the 0.4 mile trail to the bottom of the falls, 0.4 miles and 111 steps to return to Artemis.
Yellowstone National Park had amazing mountain views, rock formations and as the signs indicated, home to wildlife. We saw bison, pronghorn, coyote, eagle, elk and moose.
Just after exiting the park and crossing the border into Montana Daddy went for a swim, it was 32 today and we drove for hours!

Day 15 - July 14, 2024
Traveled from – Jackson, WY
Traveled to – Fishing Bridge Campground in Yellowstone National Park, WY
Distance Traveled – 190km
Total Trip Distance Traveled - 5979km
Sleeping Location – Fishing Bridge Campground, Yellowstone National Park, WY
Activities – Tram and Gondola Ride, Daddy – biking.
Comments – Daddy decided to go biking because he has already been to Jackson Hole. Biking is lift serviced by both gondola and chairlift. He said it was excellent, despite the dust!
Mommy, Lydia and I went to the tram to go to the top of the mountain. In 12 minutes the tram glides skyward 4,139 vertical feet. We treated ourselves to a cookie butter waffle in Corbet’s Cabin, it was delicious and will be added to the list of favourite breakfasts at the ski chalet!
Next, we went next to the gondola which had an outdoor playground at mid-station. Our final gondola ride we were able to capture a picture of a moose sunning itself. The Lift’ies say it is a favourite spot for the moose, it spends many summer days lounging there.
Finally, we stopped to see the trail ride horses at the corner of the RV parking lot.
Mommy managed to score a Yellowstone National Park campground spot for the night. We arrived just before the skies opened with a downpour. This campground was for hard-sided RV’s and motorhomes only, no canvas pop-outs permitted as bears visit the campground nightly. Stay tuned for Yellowstone highlights next!

Day 14 - July 13, 2024
Traveled from – Casper, WY
Traveled to – Jackson, WY
Distance Traveled – 450km
Total Trip Distance Traveled - 5789km
Sleeping Location – Base of Snow King Mountain, Jackson, WY
Activities – Biking, Swimming and touring Jackson town centre.
Comments – We started with biking along a riverbed which was not something we are familiar with, and we can say that PEI biking really spoils us! We all happened to wear our CPEI Rigid Riders jerseys so we made sure to get a picture!
After a long day of driving, Daddy really wanted to go swimming so we pulled off the highway alongside the river so he could go for a quick dip. We spotted our first bison!
We landed at Jackson town square just in time to catch the final act of the Jackson Hole Town Square Shootout, a Wild West tradition. You can see a video here: https://www.jacksonholechamber.com/events/town-square-shootout/
While in town we did some research into activities for the following day. We cooked supper beside the elementary school so Lydia and I could play at the park, and then went rock climbing at the Snow King Mountain base park.
