Norman Island, a curious little rock in the British Virgin Islands, a place where the very air seems to hum with mystery and adventure. It has long been whispered about in seafaring circles, partly due to the tales of treasure buried by pirates, particularly those chronicled in Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, which some believe may have been inspired by the island itself. Historically, Norman Island has seen its share of escapades: it was once the domain of pirates like the notorious Blackbeard, then later a stop for British Navy ships and American whalers. It also served as a haven for smugglers—because why wouldn’t it?—and for a time, was even rumored to be the site of a hidden fortune, though no one has ever quite managed to unearth it. Today, we drop anchor across its protected bays seeking refuge along its lush coasts. Snorkelers keen to dip their toes into the same waters where black-hearted brigands once pounded rum and schemed their next misdeed. The island remains a delightful paradox: a treasure, in a sense, but only if you can find the treasure of stillness amid the modern-day adventurers.

With extraordinary enthusiasm, the Sailing Collective is thrilled to sponsor the Olivia Wyatt Golden Globe 2026 Contender Fundraising Voyage in Thailand taking place from March 30 to April 5. Captain Olivia Wyatt has been apart of the Sailing Collective team since 2017. Beginning in 2019, she set sail from the coast of Los Angeles to embark on a solo, round-the-world voyage.

Along the way, Olivia had the audacious idea to enter one of maritime's greatest challenges: the Golden Globe Race—a single-handed (solo), nonstop circumnavigation of the world. This elite race is limited to 30 carefully selected sailors, and Olivia is proudly among them! Participants choose their own vessels, with the race celebrating the spirit of traditional blue-water sailing boats over modern performance racers.

S/V Juniper, a Ta Shing Panda 34', is the very vessel Olivia began her journey with five years ago from Southern California. She has now reached Thailand, where Juniper is undergoing a full refit this winter. Come April, Olivia will continue her voyage from Thailand to Les Sables-d'Olonne, France, where the 2026 Golden Globe Race begins.
