Students will engage in a cultural and architectural emersion case study of Dubai that focuses on structure, materiality, environmental issues associated with mega developments, and how architecture transformed a traditional Middle Eastern nomadic culture into a modern icon. Highlighting the cultural and architectural elements of the United Arab Emirates with a focus on city development, planning,
traditional and luxury architectural design. The structures included in the tour are: Burj Khalifa, Palm Island, Burj Al Arab, the Dubai Mall, Wafi Center, Royal Mirage hotel, Al Ain Historical Palas and Oasis, Wild Wadi Water Park, Indoor Ski Dubai, multiple luxury hotels/complexes and Sharjah market. Activities which will be optional and some included are; SUV sand dunning outside of Al Ain and dinner in the desert, indoor Skiing at the Ski Dubai Mall, dancing fountains at Burj Kalifa, free time to shop, swimming in the Persian Gulf, travel to natural wadi and Arabian ruins, attending a camel race, and optional skydiving above Palm Island.
