Russian Man Wreaks Havoc at 7-11 in Pattaya’s Walking Street

Pattaya —

A Russian man suddenly went on a rampage and destroyed a 7-11 store on Pattaya’s Walking Street in South Pattaya in the early morning of today, January 16th.

He also allegedly caused injuries to a female cashier, 53-year-old Mrs. Kanya Inpanon. She told The Pattaya News that the Russian man, who could not be identified, came to buy a bottle of water, and, for unknown reasons, went on a rampage, as he began to rummage through goods and destroyed the store’s glass door.

Mrs. Kanya also stated that the man tried to sexually harass other customers before bursting outside. She said she was cut by shattered glass. The Russian man was very violent because he also headbutted a motorcycle taxi rider who rushed to stop him but to no avail, said the cashier. The unnamed rider sustained eye injuries.

Pattaya authorities and Sawang Boriboon rescuers were notified to capture the man at about 4:30 AM. Upon arrival, the man was still aggressive, having shouted and paced around the store in front of a crowd of dozens of tourists.

The authorities then took him down and transported him to the Pattaya police station. He was about 35-40 years old, said the authorities. Other than his nationality, the man did not give any information about his identity to law enforcement. His nationality was only based on his spoken language, however, as he had no identification documents on him. The man was described as uncooperative with police as of this morning.

The two injured victims are receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.

The Russian suspect is in police custody although it is unclear what legal charges will be pressed against him.

Russian Tourist Physically Assaulted for Allegedly Refusing to Pay 60-Baht Bar Bill in Pattaya

Pattaya —
An alleged Russian dine-and-dasher was attacked by a Pattaya bar owner for reportedly refusing to pay his 60-baht bill. The bar owner claimed the tourist initiated the altercation by slapping her in the face first.

The Russian tourist was surrounded by bar goers and bar operators of the Bonsai Bar when Sawang Boriboon rescuers arrived at 2:30 AM today, January 13th. The tourist, only identified as Mr. Michel, in his early 50’s was dazed and confused and had sustained multiple non-life-threatening injuries. He was covered in blood after he allegedly tried to flee Bonsai Bar when he was asked to pay his 60-baht bar bill, the bar owner only identified as Ms. Jane told The Pattaya News.
The bar is located in the Nongprue subdistrict of Banglamung district, Chonburi. The 53-year-old bar owner, Jane, claimed Mr. Michel refused to pay his 60-baht tab and slapped her in the face in an effort to flee the bar.

Ms. Jane admitted she and her employees physically assaulted the man to stop him from escaping. She also added that before the man tried to run away, he invited her staff to hang out with him but was rejected. He was so angry at the rejection this is why it was presumed he refused to pay his bin.

The bar owner and the Russian tourist were summoned to the Pattaya police station to settle the dispute. The police told the owner that she should use a more peaceful approach or immediately call police when dealing with upset foreign tourists, as her action could ruin Pattaya’s tourism image.
The authorities said they would charge the owner but did not disclose what the exact charges were. The Russian tourist did not give any statements to the press.

Pattaya Tourist Police Vow to Deter Crime Against Chinese Visitors

Pattaya —

Pattaya Tourist Police said they are ready to take care of an influx of Chinese tourists, especially in terms of safety.

Pol. Lt. Col. Pichaya Kheawpluang, chief of the Tourist Police Station 4, told The Pattaya News that a large number of Chinese tourists will visit Pattaya after China lifted its travel restrictions on January 8th.

He said this might result in a rise in crimes in the area, but the Tourist Police have taken several measures to protect the life and property of every tourist. For example, one of the measures is an application called “Police I Lert U,” which he urged every tourist to download to report any emergency to the Tourist Police.

Apart from that, tourists in trouble are also advised to contact the 1155 Hotline Center, which is staffed 24 hours a day. The center offers assistance in 6 languages, including English, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Chinese, and Arabic, providing guidance and support for any issues such as exploitation or overpriced goods.

Pichaya added that Tourist Police will also begin to patrol risky spots such as Walking Street, South Pattaya and Beach Road every day from 9 PM to 3 AM to deter crimes against tourists, especially from what he said were transgender people allegedly involved in many recent petty crimes against visitors.

Large Billboard in Pattaya Area Falls and Injures Woman

Pattaya —

A woman was seriously injured after a large billboard fell on her today, January 10th.

Sawang Boriboon assisted an unlucky victim, Ms. Yenchit Anchuen, in front of Soi Jomtien 12 in Chonburi’s Banglamung district. The 46-year-old sustained serious injuries to her right hip and right forearm after a billboard fell on her while driving a motorcycle.

The victim was crying in pain, rescuers told The Pattaya News. She was transferred to Mueang Pattaya Hospital.

A signpost measuring about 5-6 meters tall that previously held a large billboard fell on the road. Ms. Somchit Hemprom, a 55-year-old eyewitness, said she saw an excavator working on roadwork near a signpost when its arm got entangled with a wire, pulling the post and the billboard down. The latter unfortunately flew into the victim.

Pattaya authorities are coordinating with the roadwork contractor to compensate the victim.
