For those new to cruising, you probably have a few questions—and rightfully so! While cruising may seem simple—you hop on board and sail to new destinations—there are many small tips that can ensure your vacation goes above and beyond your expectations. As a seasoned cruiser, I've compiled a list of tips to help you make the most of your journey.
Choose a Balcony Stateroom: Upgrading to a balcony stateroom or suite is well worth it. Having your own private outdoor space to relax and take in the ocean views will be a highlight throughout the voyage.
Arrive the Day Before: Starting your trip with an early flight to the port can add unnecessary stress. Arriving a day early allows you to explore the port city and start your vacation relaxed. We can assist with hotel bookings and provide local recommendations.
Tour the Ship: After boarding, take some time to explore and familiarize yourself with the ship, especially how it relates to your cabin. Pay attention to the carpet patterns—they often include signs that help you navigate the ship by showing which direction is forward or aft.
Avoid the Buffet on Embarkation Day: Most passengers rush to the buffet as soon as they board. Instead, seek out smaller restaurants near the pool area, where you can enjoy a delicious burger or boardwalk fries without the crowd.
Make Reservations Early: Specialty dining and spa services tend to book up fast, especially during peak times. Make your reservations as soon as possible to secure your preferred spots. If needed, you can always cancel later.
Buy the Drinks Package Early: If you’re considering purchasing a drinks package—whether it’s for alcohol or sodas—do so before the voyage or on the first day. While the upfront cost might seem high, it allows you to fully relax and enjoy your vacation without worrying about extra charges.
Have a Plan for Each Port: Typically, you’ll have 4-12 hours at each port, so it’s important to plan your excursions ahead of time.
