Wales has more castles per square metres in the world than anywhere else! 👇Interesting!
Wales is believed to have more castles per square mile than any other country in the world.
Caerphilly Castle is the largest castle in Wales and the second largest in Europe.
Chepstow Castle is Britain's oldest surviving castle made of stone. Its construction began in 1067.
Beaumaris Castle on Anglesey is generally considered the finest example of a concentric castle in Europe. It has been a World Heritage site since 1986.
The ruined Flint Castle is the only British castle with two donjons. It is famous for having the thickest walls (7 m / 23 ft) of any other castle.
Powis Castle possesses Britain's oldest, and one of the last, true formal baroque gardens and is the most visited National Trust property in Wales.
The castles and town walls of Caernarfon and Conwy, and the castles of Harlech and Beaumaris were granted World Heritage Status in 1986. They were chosen as they were considered to be among the 'finest examples of late 13th-century and early 14th-century military architecture in Europe'.
Ruthin Castle was the first castle attacked by Owain Glyndwr during his uprising against the rule of Henty IV of England in 1400.

Turkey Day 7-9 we visit Asklepion, an ancient healing centre. It was built in Izmir's Bergama district in the 4th century BC and has been a treatment center for patients from various parts of the world for 900 years.
Next was Troy, one of the places I was most curious about. Great stories and insight shared by our guide at this site. I think it would be much less interesting if we didn't have his guidance and if we went there on our own.
The next day we saw the Hollywood Trojan horse, then took a ferry to visit the Anzac sites at Gallipoli. From there we went to Istanbul for our last night in Turkey.
Our guide was set to start another tour the next day following our itinerary in reverse. I wonder if this would be a better way to go as you'd end the tour with the best part - Cappadocia. It's worth noting that we were relatively lucky with the weather, it being the start of winter. The weather turned drastically from about the 17th/18th of November, so I'm not sure I'd want to go any later than this, unless ofcourse you want to see snow and all that.

Nice post by the Ancient Library this morning of Derinkuyu, the underground city we visited recently in Cappadocia, Turkey with Travel Talk Tours.
From this map it's clear why they closed off many of the tunnels for tourists so they don't get lost!

Turkey Tour Day 5-6: We were hoping to go for a hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia first thing on day 5, so we were up at 5am. Unfortunately, there was too much fog and the rides were cancelled so we left for Pamukkale around 8am. Most of our group rebooked balloon rides or paragliding for the next day in Pamukkale.
The rest of day 5 was spent driving from Cappadocia to Pamukkale. On the way we stopped at a Caravansarai from 1229, which my Mom appreciated as she loved watching the Ertogrul series where she saw these roadside inns in full use.
The next day we visited Pamukkale and the ancient city of Ephesus!

Day 4: We visit the underground city of Derinkuyu. Super interesting experience and story. Used thousands of years ago by Christians for survival. Going all the way down is not recommend for people who have blood pressue or heart issues or who are afraid of tight / small spaces, which I thought a few times may apply to me, but I went all they way down and am glad I did. My Mom, wisely, turned back early.
We visited Goreme with it's fairy chimney rock formations, cave dwellings and churches. This place is like the Badlands of South Dakota and the cave dwellings of Mesa Verde combined, but on steroids! Impressively picturesque and otherworldly. We stopped at a few other places with epic view points on the way back to the hotel for great photo ops.

Day 3: 12-Hour bus journey to Cappadocia from Istanbul in a new Mercedes Travel Talk bus. The trip is broken up with regular stops at nice service stations, so it doesn't feel as long as it sounds.
We arrived at our hotel, had dinner and then went to a traditional turkish dance show, which we loved. We also danced and participated, even my pensioner Mom was on the dance floor at one point and the red wine was some of the best I've had. Great night.

Hafiz Mustafa's in Istanbul is the place to get the best Turkish delight and further down that street along the tram lines on your way to Hagia Sophia, is the Red River restaurant, where you can enjoy a good meal and a drink without being ripped off. These places were recommended by our guide, Mustafa 😄
Warning: In that same road, before you get to Red River restaurant, is Sultan Sofrasi restaurant. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Complete rip off, scammers and thieves who work there. We didn't read reviews of this place and just sat down without even thinking. They have a 1 star review on Google and it seems they get away with double charging unsuspecting tourists all the time.
