MEDELLIN'S FUNTASTIC TREATS

Cebu is even more vibrant, colorful and full of adventure with the “Funtastic” treats of its eco-tourism adventure capital, Medellin!

LITERALLY THE MOST COLORFUL TOWN HALL IN THE PHILIPPINES!

First eye-candy stop is Medellin’s colorful town hall, a “statement of strength, hope and love” after Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) battered this Northern Cebu town. With its local government’s strong initiative of replicating the positive vibe, find a combination of bright happy colors anywhere in town. From lamp posts, bridges, water tanks and eco-adventure tourism destinations, feast on the colors that attract good vibes.

--------------------
FUN IN THE SUN AND SEA AT FUNTASTIC ISLAND

The famous Funtastic Island in Gibitngil draws local and international tourists for a good doze of the cool sea waters of a rock island and the warm hospitality of the islanders. Plus, the daring will surely love the 35 feet plunge from the diving board etched on this rock island to the deep blue sea. Bask under the sun through the white sandy beach a few meters from the rock formation. Swim and snorkel around the bay or take the rush through the zipline from the main island to the rock formation. Enjoy the whole day or extend for an overnight stay. You can pitch a tent, grill some barbecue or ask the locals to help you out for a warm meal for a fee.

--------------------
THE HILLS ARE ALIVE AT THE ZIP AWAY

The Zip Away at Barangay Caputatan Norte delivers the thrill of ziplines, Sky Bike Ride and Tarzan Jump from the top of the hills. Or you may sit in one of the wooden benches under the native huts and enjoy the scenery below made of sugarcane fields. Snacks and drinks are available at the Zip Away.

--------------------
SHOW UP AND HAVE FUN AT THE HIDEAWAY

The Hideway in Barangay Tindog is a 500 meter bamboo walk above the cool sea waters of Medellin. Surrounded with open cottages and sari-sari stores, the bamboo walk stretches to a rock that cradles a lone open cottage that a group or two can rent out for the day. The Hideaway is a popular destination for families, friends and big groups who are up for a picnic, a swim and even outdoor karaoke.

--------------------
BE ONE WITH THE SUNSET AT THE DOCKSIDE

Enjoy an early barbecue dinner just as the sun sets on still sea waters only at Medellin’s Dockside. Add on fresh fruits that are also available at the small sari-sari stores opposite the barbecue and grill food stalls. Relax and enjoy the hues and colors of Medellin sunset.

Salamat Lolo Kiko!

------------------------------------

There's no doubt that Pope Francis’ visit to the Philippines is one for the books. A historical event not only in terms of numbers of a congregation of Filipino Catholics but of a nation unified by the power of faith regardless of religious affiliations. The visit’s prime purpose which was to be with the survivors of Typhoon Yolanda in Tacloban and the 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Bohol has made a mark nationwide. It touched the heart and soul of the whole Filipino nation. It inspired the rest of the world.

Pope Francis, whom Filipinos fondly call Lolo Kiko (Grandpa Kiko), came as a symbol of humility, faith and compassion.

Thank you for visiting us Lolo Kiko!

TODAY IS RIZAL DAY
Mabuhay Ang Pambansang Bayani!

Every 30th of December, the whole nation commemorates the life and works of Dr. José Rizal, the Philippines' National Hero. It is the date of his death by ex*****on in 1896 under the Spanish Regime.

A national holiday in the Philippines, Rizal Day is symbolically observed with activities led by government executives expressing gratitude and reverence to his martyrdom. It includes the laying of wreath at the Rizal Monument of each town or city and the raising of the Philippine flag in half mast.

The photo above is a monument of Dr.Jose Rizal's Landing Site in Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte.
It is the actual site where Rizal landed on July 17, 1892, the start of his four years as an exile in Dapitan. "With Captain Delgras and three artillery men, they walked through Sta. Cruz Street with “farol de combate” to the Casa Real, where he was presented to Don Ricardo Carnicero, Spanish Military governor of the district.”

A historical marker at Rizal's Landing reads: "Wherever I go, I would always be in the hands of God who has in His hands the destinies of man." - Dr. José Rizal

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Greetings from the heritage town of Boljoon, Cebu, Philippines!

This is Escuela Catolica, a wooden structure constructed in 1940 which served as a primary school and for religious education. It was also used as a temporary dormitory for children who were about to take their first communion. This heritage structure is located at Patrocinio de Maria Street, which was formerly called "Calle de Patrocinio", the oldest street in Boljoon.

Today, Escuela Catolica stands still by the test of time on this historic town. It has now become the meeting venue of religious organizations of Nuestra Señora de Patrocinio Parish of Boljoon.

Watch out for the vintage cars of Tour de Cebu now rolling via CEBU-DUMAGUETE-BACOLOD route.

-----------------------------------------

It seems like the best way to experience time travel is through vintage machines!

Let 27 gorgeous vintage cars traversing the scenic islands of Cebu and Negros for the 1st TOUR de CEBU on December 5-7, 2014 give you that first classic time travel experience.

This touristic three-day rally is not a test of speed. It is a regularity race where the aim is to reach a specific destination in a pre-defined time. Vintage cars to grace this historic event are manufactured not later than December 31, 1979.

The race shows off local automotive heritage and of course destination tourism in both islands.

Part of the event proceeds of the 1st Tour de Cebu will be shared to the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF) of Cebu City. Race organizers Manila Sports Car Club (MSCC) and Performance and Classics Enthusiasts (PACE) aim for Tour de Cebu to become an annual event.

In South Cotabato with : Good-hearted Pinoy trekkers on the way to Barangay Lamfugon of the Ubo Tribe in Lake Sebu. Everyone was getting excited to immerse with the local community, plant some trees, donate supplies like solar lamps and go spelunking at the awesome Kofnit Cave. This was through the efforts of Takladtamig Onse, organized by FHM group.

Yes, you have traveled abroad and learned about foreign culture… but how well do you know our very own Philippine culture?

Meet our new friend, Beh Lang Dulay. She is the famous T'boli Dreamweaver who has been crafting the designs she has dreamt about since she was 12 years old. She creates intricate weaving patterns using fine abaca fibers to make T'nalak cloth. Images of her creations tell the history and identity of her tribe in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.

There are only a few left of the traditional weavers of T'nalak as it is a very tedious process. A 3-meter T'nalak can take as much as 4 months to complete.

Through her weaving, Lang Dulay does what she can to keep her tribe's tradition alive. Now in her 90s, she is passing on all her techniques to her granddaughters and students. Because of her contribution to the preservation of the T'boli tribe's culture, Lang Dulay is named as a National Living Treasure of the Philippines.

Tibiao’s Kawa Hot Bath: A Fun and Exotic Pampering Experience

Panay brings more than the world-famous Boracay Island, the heritage churches of Iloilo and their much-loved Pancit Molo. Take for instance this unique pampering ‘Kawa’ Hot Bath in Tibao, Antique.

The 'Kawa’ Hot Bath serves as a relaxing reward for eco-adventurers exploring Panay. A huge wok that can accommodate two to four persons is filled with water and put to warm through an open wood-fire. Depending on one’s tolerance to heat, the fun and pampering begins. To complete the concoction, some leaves from the nearest tree are added which gives a fresh and balmy scent, making you want to just soak there, relax and smile away.

Where does the ‘Kawa’ in Tibiao come from? The huge wok was traditionally used to cook Muscovado sugar as sugarcane is one of the top agricultural produce of Panay.

Remembering our Dearly Departed Loved-Ones

In an old cemetery in the province, there were three little girls spotted on a grave silently clearing out weeds that grew around a tomb. It belonged to their sister. She passed away when she was three.

Today is "All Souls Day". This strongly-observed Filipino tradition brings Pinoys together to visit the cemetery offering flowers and lighting candles in prayer. Some offer food that a dearly-departed used to love. This Pinoy tradition reunites families and strengthens relationships through sharing and reminscing memories left by loved ones.

Let us take a moment of sIlence as we remember and pay respect to them who have gone before us. A family, a friend, a co-worker...let our memory of them be here today in celebration of the life we have shared together.

Miss World New Zealand 2014 is a PROUD PINAY!

Miss World New Zealand 2014 Arielle Diane Garciano recently visited her father's home island Camotes in Cebu, Philippines. The homecoming of the 22 year-old newly crowned Pinay beauty queen was a fun and heartwarming experience. It was a memorable trip for Arielle as she touched base with her Filipino roots. The trip was also a chance for the beauty to help in promoting Philippine Tourism.

We are proud of you Arielle!

It's been a year... have you forgotten?
Do you still remember how you helped them?

: A Tale of Courage, Unity & Faith

Today, October 15, 2014, we commemorate the first anniversary of the 7.2 Magnitude Earthquake that struck the island of Bohol and the neighboring island of Cebu. Today, we remember the lives and homes lost, the heritage churches and natural wonders ruined, the livelihood and lives displaced.

But today, we also celebrate how you stood up and carried on. After the earthquake, with the help of our Filipino kababayans as well as our friends from other parts of the world, you have survived and took the challenge. Turning ruins to tourism, rebuilding homes and livelihood. You have shown your strength and perseverance to live and to prove the Filipino's true character.

Mabuhay!

MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS!

As the country celebrates the 116th Philippine Independence, Cebu's Marco Polo Plaza hotel features "Comida de Independencia", a feast of Philippine history through a culinary experience at its signature restaurant Cafe Marco.

Diners get to taste and enjoy dishes which were served at General Emilio Aguinaldo's residence in Cavite during the declaration of Philippine Independence in 1898. These dishes are served on top Café Marco's regular international buffet stretch on lunch and dinner.

Café Marco's "Culinary Journeys" Comida de Independencia runs until June 14, 2014.

Dine at the "Best Buffet in Cebu City" as we toast to Philippine Independence!
