Last minute notice! Meet up tomorrow Wednesday Aug 23 at noon! Free Cuban sandwiches to the first 25 folk for National Cuban Sandwich Day at the Chicago Center for Photojournalism at 1226 West Wilson. Photo is of Pedro, beloved owner of El Prado restaurant in Melrose Park who made the best Cuban sandwich ever, along with many other Cuban dishes that we enjoyed growing up. Let’s celebrate his passion! 🇨🇺

Chicago Tonight’s Latino Voices on PBS Channel 11 did a wonderful 4 min piece on my photography retrospective on Cuba - Nick Blumberg and Phil Ponce captured the nuances often missing when talking about the country. I’m a behind-the-camera kind of person so to hear my name repeatedly on TV and by Phil Ponce - can’t pretend I’m used to it! 😳

I have always been impressed by Susan Aurinko. I learned her name and about her former gallery for years through the photography community. The universe is a mysterious place because having her now write a review of my show is a surreal and humbling moment. Thank you so much Susan. 🙏🏼

Cuba’s history is on full display at a market in Havana where every item has a story. It’s a fascinating walk through the arts, sports, politics that has forged the island, for better or for worse. For the first time since we’ve been going we found pieces of eight, Spanish dollars. Film posters of limited edition were also on display. All fascinating.

Finally, finally! Good news for the women boxers we've photographed in Havana.

Cuban officials say women boxers will be able to compete officially after decades of restrictions, though they didn't yet confirm if that would be taken to a professional level like Cuban male boxers.

Cousin Carlitin surprised us with detailed sculptures of the El Morro to give as gifts to our guests! The Garcia family is involved in our trips in many ways but this was certainly the most creative. We encourage all artists especially those in the family! He is very talented and I think could make a business of his creations, which we hope will happen! 💯💯💯🏰

As a pure coincidence, the driver that we found in Havana happened to grow up on the very finca where we were having lunch in Viñales. So he got to see his brother and his family. On top of that the casa owner in Havana we found out was related to our casa owner in Viñales! we definitely felt as if we were keeping families together!

We have the kindest and most generous guests❤️❤️❤️ After the hurricane in Viñales we arrived with suitcases filled with donated items that we gave to families. Everywhere we went, our guests were very generous with their tips and donations in support of the Cuban people. Tears while we write this. This is why we do what we do. This extended family had no idea what was in store when we arrived. Thank you!!! ❤️💯🙏🏼
