This is why I travel

September 2015 was our last trip to Disney World as a family. I don’t mean last trip like ‘it was the last one we took but we’ll be going back in the future’ kind of way. I literally mean it was our last trip as a family. A month later my husband was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and he passed a way 15 months later. I am so grateful now for the memories of our yearly trips. We didn’t do anything fancy - no trip to Europe or voyage on a cruise ship. We visited most of the states in the northeast, where we lived at the time. We visited family in Arizona. A lot. We visited family in Michigan. Every year! And we went to Disney World three times as a family. Planning the trips was my favorite part...uncovering a new destination and putting together an itinerary I thought the whole family would love. We were lucky enough to go on a nice vacation every year. I am grateful for those memories because that is all we have of my husband now. Your day to day memories might fade, but you will always remember your vacations. If you don’t, your photos and Facebook will remind you! Don’t put off tomorrow what you can do right now. There might not be a tomorrow. And you want people to remember you hugging Mickey, riding your bike on the Cape Cod Rail Trail back to the cottage to get the car because your daughter was too tired to ride any further, or pulling a jumping cholla cactus out of your knee. This is why you travel!
