Our town ❤️ the Lewes Canal was completed back in 1927 and runs about 10 miles and connects the Delaware Bay at Roosevelt Inlest and Rehoboth Bay. It was created as a access to the sea for farmers and saw mills along the Indian River and Bay area. Have you ever taken a boat ride on the canal?

A little history! Did you know that the town of Lewes was once called Zwaanendael or Swaanendael? It was a Dutch colonial settlement built in 1631. The name is archaic Dutch for “swan valley” for the swans 🦢 spotted nearby. Later, it became Lewes, Delaware. But the Zwaanendael Museum which was founded in the 1930s still honors the beginnings of our coastal town! The tulips and spring flowers for Lewes in Bloom were a gorgeous sight, and the annual summer flowers will be in shortly!
