Review of Planet Hollywood in Gunacaste, Costa Rica. Ten of us spent the last three nights there and I really liked this resort! We had great service, especially by the pool. You rarely went without a drink in hand! This is not a beach resort, much like any resort in this area! It’s black sand and it feels more like you are sitting by a lake than the ocean. BUT the view with the mountains behind the ocean is breathtaking!

One of my favorite thing about the resort is the fact that there are white faced monkies constantly around in the trees and they let you feed them!

The room was one of the nicest I’ve had at a resort! Very spacious with two queens or a king, with a very large bathroom with double sinks. I was in an ocean view room and the view was amazing!!!

It is a steep walk from the rooms and lobby area down to the pool/beach but they have carts constantly available to shuttle you!

The food was good and they had four different restaurant options and a very good buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. By the pool they had a Guy fieri’s and other outdoor food options. The grilled meat and pizza were very good. I love a resort where I can eat right by the pool 🙂

It was extremely hot there from sun up to sun down so everyone spent most of the day in the pools. Each one had a swim up bar and activities during the day!

The cancun airport now was a VIP lounge you can hang in for only $39/pp for three hours. It includes food and drink. So it’s a great deal when you consider the cost of food and alcohol at the airport 🙂. There are some cards that grant free access (like capitol one venture and amex). My final site visit/day pass of this trip was the Valentin imperial riviera Maya! Another one I was excited to visit based on high praise from other agents. It’s a beautiful resort owned by a Spanish family. Beautiful grounds, lots of charm and looks like it would be a very fun place to spend a week! I’ll be adding captions to videos and pictures but some highlights:

- complimentary chair massages by the pool (had to lead with that one)
- very spacious resort so will include some walking or shuttles
- multiple pools with some designated for fun and some quiet
- long walkable beach. Again one side more geared toward fun and one towards relaxation
- 9 buildings with ocean front rooms
- the prive rooms include use of daybeds at pool amd beach
- biggest pool I’ve been too (and second largest of any Mexican resort from what I was told) with pool floats available to use
- two food trucks around the pool and the tacos were amazing
- pool side service for drinks and food
- central out door area at night with drinks and hanging out while waiting for dinner
- from the guests I talked to sounds like a fun time at night
- sports bar and cigar bar
- cafe with coffee, other non-coffe drinks, ice cream, pastries and delicious sandwiches
- lots of beach chairs and pool chairs

**Can’t believe I forgot to mention that each room in the impressions side comes with a butler to take care of all your needs! And on the moxche side their is a concierge on each floor to help you if you need them! Such service!

Todays visit to Secrets Moxche/Moxche Impressions is the one I was most excited for because all the other agents rave about it and I can see why! I don’t think I’ve ever said “wow” so many times going through a resort! It’s a newer build with an outstanding design and setup. Everywhere you go the views are incredible. I know the videos and pictures won’t do it justice but I took a ton. It’s my new favorite 🙂

- if you stay on the Secrets Moxche Impressions side you have access to everything on both sides, including the most amazing rooftop pools!
- my room videos are of the Moxche preferred club junior swim out suite and the Secrets impression swim out signature suite
- all pools and swim outs are heated
- the buffet is breakfast and lunch only
- multiple Al a carte restaurants to choose from. Some have the option to upgrade your dinner and have a semi private dinner with the chefs
- lagoon style pools that are fresh water with real sand
- multiple pools and small cenotes depending if you want more fun or more relaxed
- the wedding venue was roof top and simply stunning
- really nice theater with rotating shows
- the dark horse bar has a golf simulator, pool tables and fooz ball
- the rooftop area at impressions is on the 9th floor and had an infinity pool, regular pool, hot tubs, bar, restaurant and Bali beds
- if you do preferred club at moxche you also have a similar rooftop area
- the spa was gorgeous and perfect for individuals or couples
- one of the funnest features is at night the pharmacy has a secret passage to the speak easy
- 24 hour room service is included with all rooms. Order from your tablet and there is a secret “cabinet” they deliver your food into so they don’t even have to come into your room
- less than 10 minute taxi ride to downtown playa
- and it’s adults only!!

I’m going to go back and caption the different videos and photos but this place had so much to offer and seems to be worth the higher price point!!

My next review is Sunscape Akumal. We visited this one on Tuesday. This is a very budget resort and I would have a hard time selling it unless it was the only thing that worked in someone’s budget because there are other budget resorts I definitely like better.

- I think my favorite thing about the resort was there is a “swim up bar” for kids with non-alcoholic drinks available . Also little kid lounge chairs (that could use a cleaning)
- would definitely want to upgrade to Sunclub if staying there or you miss out on a lot of perks. Although the regular pool area was nicer than the sun club pool area, just not up by the ocean
- the buffet was very limited and not replenished well
- the beach front walk out room was very nice
- limited spots on the beach
- pool area toward the back with swim up bar was the nicest area
- dinner at the Italian restaurant was good
- overall the resort is pretty run down and could use a facelift, but once they do that the price shoots up and it takes away a budget option. You can tell in some of my pics and videos.

As they say you get what you pay for and if you didn’t want to spend much you could make it work!

Monday we visited the amazing Secrets Akumal. I would never hesitate to send anyone to this very beautiful, adults only, all inclusive resort. The grounds were spectacular! We had great service all day. The breakfast and lunch buffets were very good! They also have a wood fire pizza oven by the pool with made to order pizzas. Mine was so good!

The beach is beautiful and you can snorkel and see sea turtles off the beach. We didn’t do it because the water was a little too choppy for us! There were more than enough beach chairs which is definitely a plus!

We didn’t get to eat at one of the restaurants for dinner, because we forgot the bag with our change of clothes back at my apartment, but I know the food would have been amazing. Here are some pictures and videos of the property!

Todays visit was to the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya! I was scheduled for a tour at ten and then had a day pass to hang at the resort the rest of the day. Unfortunately the lady never showed for the tour, so I walked around the resort and took lots of pics and videos!

- The resort is very very big
- It has an adults only side (Heaven) and a family side (hacienda)
- it’s technically not on the beach but has these amazing “beach coves” with wonderfully calm and beautiful water
- one of my favorite things about this place is how readily available food was around the pool. Taco bar, burger bar, pizzas. That’s a huge selling point for me!
- wait service on the beach was good and the drinks were very good
- by the lobby there is a little cafe with coffee, capacino, frapacino, ice cream, sweets and deli sandwiches. Very convenient and very good.
- there is a water park at the back that i didn’t get to visit so I took pictures from their site to post
- I wished i would have been able to tour a room. There were so many rooms. A few have stairs off the balcony that take you to the roof!
- hot tubs scattered around the property, some big and some smaller
- looks like it would be a place for great nighttime entertainment.
- they have three different stages set up around the property for shows and live music. And while I was there they were setting up for girls just wanna weekend featuring Brandi Carlisle and Wynonna Judd!

My next review is not only of a hotel, but of a beautiful little town in Mexico called Bacalar! Bacalar is 4 hours south of Cancun. The thing that brought me to Bacalar was the water and it did not disappoint! I pretty much walked everywhere I wanted to go in this town, except the day I went to Los Rápidos. The town was known as a pirate town and still has an old fort in the middle of town

I stayed at Casa Chukum Bacalar. It’s an adorable boutique hotel owned by Debbie (originally from Mexico City) and Marco (from Italy). They live onsite and were amazing hosts, along with all of Debbie’s staff. Debbie even drove me to the bus station this morning 🙂. It’s an adorable botique hotel with very nice and very clean rooms. Each night I would sit on my terrace in the garden and read. For 150 pesos (less than $8 US) you get an amazing made to order breakfast. It had a beautiful rooftop terrace where you could see the lagoon!

While there I also did a boat tour around the lagoon which included drinks, floating fruit board, and several stops to get out in that amazing water and swim. I visited a beach club on my first day and went to Los Rápidos on my last. Pictures of all are included below!

This quaint little town is not on the ocean but on a lagoon. For me, it’s usually a lot about the water and it was seriously breathtaking. I could have just sat there and stared at it all day, which is what I did this morning till it was time to head back to Playa! Adios Bacalar, I’ll be back! My next review will be of Hard Rock Riviera Maya on the 7th!
