"Cold Weather from Sunday 14th July Expected”

Our weather forecast modelling is showing that the Blue Mountains region is expecting to be impacted by increased cold air movement that is being generated by a low-pressure system in the Tasman Sea. It is highly likely that this will generate snow for the Central Tablelands especially in the Oberon region on Sunday night into Monday.

There is only a small chance (10%) that the snow may fall in the Blue Mountains LGA. However, the cold conditions may lead to the forming of ice on surfaces (also known as ‘black ice’). Icy conditions make it dangerous to drive on roads in these conditions, especially just before dawn.

As it is school holidays, and people are enjoying our fantastic outdoors, be mindful if bushwalking or camping to have appropriate cold weather clothing. Whilst the temperature will be down to about 1 degrees in Katoomba, we are expecting strong cold winds which makes it feel like -5 degrees.
