Southwest Airlines makes changes to their famous Free Checked Bag policy.

Updates to Checked Baggage Policy

Southwest Airlines will offer two free checked bags to Rapid Rewards® A-List Preferred Members and Customers traveling on Business Select fares. Will also offer one free checked bag to A-List Members and other select Customers. In addition, Southwest will credit one checked bag for Rapid Rewards Credit Cardmembers.

All remaining Customers will pay to check their first and second bags, and we will continue to charge for the third and fourth checked bags. Changes will apply to flights booked on or after May 28.

Updates to Fare Bundles

Updating the benefits of our fares bundles in phases. Whether you’re looking for a lower price with fewer perks, or more benefits for added flexibility, you’ll have the choice to pick what works best for your trip.

Phase 1: Beginning this month, increased Rapid Rewards earn ratio on Business Select fares and lowered the earn ratio on Wanna Get Away® and Wanna Get Away Plus™ fares. Will also begin to vary redemption rates across fare products on some high- and low-demand travel periods.

Phase 2: Beginning May 28, will introduce a new Basic fare. This new Basic fare will be the lowest price point and will have less flexibility than other fares. Additionally, will be adding expiration dates to Flight Credits, which will vary based on which fare you choose to purchase.

The chart below gives you a full picture of the revised fare products as of May 28, 2025, ranging from most flexible to value-first.

February is American Heart Month

I'm thrilled to be a Woman of Impact nominee fundraising for the American Heart Association and Go Red for Women from February 7th to April 10th. Our mission is to create a world of longer, healthier lives, and we need your support.
The American Heart Association is committed to building longer, healthier lives for everyone. I am deeply invested in the Go Red for Women campaign to highlight the number one health threat for women—cardiovascular disease.

As you know, on March 19, 2024, I almost lost my life to an Aortic Dissection. What you may not know is that I did not receive immediate medical attention although I was transported to the ER via ambulance. The emergency response personnel informed the triage nurse that I was having a cardiac episode. Aortic dissections have an extremely high mortality rate with many patients dying before they ever reach medical care. I was left in the ER waiting room for HOURS bleeding out internally all because I did not fit the textbook description of my condition. Far too many times, women are misdiagnosed even with the knowledge that heart disease is our #1 Killer.

Real ID Enforcement is Coming Soon...

TSA, will begin enforcing REAL ID requirements starting May 7, 2025. Once enacted, these regulations will require people to present a state-issued driver’s license or identification card that meets the security requirements set in place by the REAL ID Act for official purposes, including boarding commercial aircraft. According to the TSA, implementation of the REAL ID Act and its associated regulations will enhance security and aid in federal agencies ability to accurately verify an individual’s identity.

To avoid hiccups at airport security, the TSA is urging travelers to obtain a REAL ID-compliant state-issued driver’s license, state-issued identification card or another form of acceptable ID, such as an active U.S. passport, before the May 7 deadline. The agency also noted that all 50 states are issuing REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses and identification cards which are easily identifiable thanks to their signature star, which will be gold or black, located in the upper-right-hand corner.

The perks of having a great travel agent:

True Story....

Clients were delayed in leaving for their anniversary trip. The delay made them miss their connecting flight to their magnificent destination. The airline put them up in a hotel for the night. Since they booked with our agency, we kicked in to do the rest.

Not only did I take care of securing their resort accommodations, transfers and VIP airport service for the next day, I was able to negotiate to get their stay extended with no additional cost.

Normally the vendor would deny the request because the issue is covered under the insurance they purchased. Another plug for travel insurance and why it's always good to have. After going to bat for our clients, they were accommodated to get the same number of days at no additional cost.

It was a little hassle for them, but they still were able to enjoy a full Magnificent Getaway for their anniversary celebration. So when I read about other people having to fend for themselves or being left high & dry... I just shake my head and think, They NOT like Us!

It is that time of year. Patticakes is about to go on another Magnificent Getaway. Our office will be closed March 18 - 22, 2024. I recently celebrated my birthday and now it's time for me to enjoy vacation. As always, stay tuned to see where Patti ends up next.
