Why don't you try one of the best, actually iconic, restaurant in Lisbon but (!) during the calm hours? After 3pm and before 7pm, it's heaven. Land at the bar, a super pro old school waiter is all ears to your wishes. Sea food snack? Check! Chicken soup? Check! Partridge pie? Check! The locals go for the basic, one 'croquete', served with mustard on a plate and one 'prego', a small steak sandwich. Small, really cold beers help you digest all this.

Why don't you avoid crowded places? In August is nearly mission impossible, I know! But you want to have dinner/lunch by the river Tagus in Lisbon right? In spite of all the terraces are full there's one restaurant that has the best table, and food. Check Clube the Vela and book the corner table in the first floor terrace. Very good grilled fish, best view to the river and the marina. You're welcome!

WHY DON’T YOU

Let me introduce myself. My name is Carla Sousa and I’m passionate about Portugal. To be more precise, what I’m really passionate about is the genuine, heart-warming, hard working and generous Portuguese people; they make what this country is really about, not only the beautiful places, amazing food, great beaches and all those recommendations on the guide books you have access to. The thing is that I don’t like crowded beaches, waiting lines to visit places, and excursions. I’m more of a loner, and maybe selfish, in the way that I prefer to visit (some) places with very few people. With this page I intend to suggest places, reveal curiosities, disclose hidden spots, present traditional foods and drinks, explain habits and show you everything that I consider you shouldn’t miss in a trip to Lisbon. But, and there’s always a but, my main focus is not Lisbon: I want to take you outside the city, to the little villages by the coast or countryside, and discover less known places, but oh so great! The suggestions are usually complete programs for a day, or half a day. You’ll need to be curious and adventurous, as many places are 30 minutes to an hour's drive from Lisbon. Sometimes you’ll need to rent a car, chauffeured or not, or a scooter or a even a bicycle. Whatever your pick, you’ll need a map, gps, or to just ask for directions from any portuguese (which can be a really fun experience by itself). OR, you can ask me to take you on a tour. Not your standard tour, though: they're always tailor made, surprise tours. I am hoping to help you discover the Portuguese and to have great moments that will leave you with unique memories to bring back home.
