Coy Dumas, Jr., a 71-year-old MARTA bus driver in Atlanta, Georgia who is well-loved in the community, is being honored for having served his community for 50 years.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Dumas, who is an Adamsville native, first started driving for MARTA in 1972. Since then, he has driven a total of over 2 million miles and safely carried nearly 2.8 million passengers.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
In all those years, he has never met an accident, except for one minor accident in the late 1970s. He was not at fault when a truck driver hit the side of his bus and no passengers were injured as well.​​​​​​​​

"Anyone who's driven a bus can tell you it is hard work. Mr. Dumas does it with a smile and a sense of pride that makes his customers and all who cross his path feel uplifted and inspired," MARTA General Manager and CEO Collie Greenwood said, according to 11 Alive.🙌🏼💯​​​​​​​​

--The Marine Corps has a Black woman commanding in its ranks as a two-star general for the first time in history. 🙌🏾

Big congratulations to Brig. Gen. Lorna Mahlock, who President Joe nominated for promotion to major general earlier this month! The Senate confirmed her nomination on December 15th.

Lorna M. Mahlock was born in Kingston, Jamaica and immigrated to Brooklyn, New York where she enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. She has since served as the Marine Corps’ chief information officer and director of command, control, communications, and computers.

One of the smallest military branches, the Marine Corps has the lowest percentage of women among its troops at nine percent. Only three women in the corps’ history have picked up the rank of lieutenant general, and all of them are retired.

Mahlock, 54, is now the National Security Agency’s deputy director of cybersecurity for combat support and is based at Fort Meade, Md.
