Get ready for another exciting week packed with events and activities as we celebrate the 4th of July and the Adams County Fair! We encourage everyone to attend and explore what each event has to offer.

Kicking off the week, Real Deals is having their July 4th Sales Week with new store hours, so be sure to check their page for more details. On the 3rd, enjoy a morning coffee at the Prescott Library from 9-11AM, and later that evening, catch the well-attended Inside Out 2 showing again at the Corning American Theater at 7PM.

Celebrate Independence Day at our 64th Annual Flight Breakfast, rain or shine, from 7:30AM-10AM at the Corning Airport. The festivities continue on the 5th with the First Friday BBQ at Central Park from 11:30AM-12:30PM, hosted by Adams County Farm Bureau and Nick Wetzel - Farm Bureau Financial Services, serving chicken burrito bowls. In the evening, head to Lake Icaria, Adams County for a series of 4th of July events: a Boat Parade from 6-7PM, a Treasure Hunt from 7-9PM, and FIREWORKS from 10-10:30PM.

On the 6th, join the Youth Fishing Tournament at Lake Icaria from 10-11:30AM, or take a tour of the Johnny Carson Birthplace from 10AM-2PM. The excitement ramps up with the kickoff of Adams County Fair, Corning Iowa, featuring a Rodeo at the Fairgrounds starting at 7PM, followed by live music from Dustin Baird. The fun continues on the 7th with Day 2 of the Adams County Fair, and another Rodeo at 7PM, with live music by Tyler Folkerts to follow.

FEMA is opening Disaster Recovery Centers in Adams County to provide one-on-one help to people affected by severe storms and tornadoes this spring.

Recovery specialists from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration will provide information on available services, explain assistance programs, and help survivors complete or check the status of their applications.

On today's Member Spotlight, Fred Shearer, Vice Chair of the Adams Community Foundation, shares insights about the foundation and presents significant funds to local organizations, totaling $84,700. Since its inception about 25 years ago, the foundation has donated a tremendous almost 2 million dollars to local Adams County projects, giving between 100-150K annually! Recipients include:

City of Corning - Neighborhood Revitalization
Adams Community/Corning, Iowa ACEDC Fund
Corning American Theater
Corning Public Library

If you would like to donate to the foundation, your contribution qualifies for the Iowa Foundation Tax Credit and is tax-deductible.

Our June First Friday BBQ was graciously hosted by the Faithful Community Church, Corning Iowa. Community members enjoyed a delicious meal of breakfast for lunch. Thank you, FCC!

Sunday School & Worship is held each Sunday at the Corning Opera House at 9:30AM & 10:30AM, respectively.

Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Join OURCQ Post 117 American Legion Corning Iowa and Corning Iowa Fire Department in paying tribute at a Memorial Day Observance Ceremony in Central Park at 11AM.

The influx of supplies has been outstanding! We are currently pausing on taking in more donations! We’re taking inventory and in contact with the families to currently adjust to their needs. Thank you so much for all your donations, and we will continue to update everyone as to the needs of each family. 🥰

If your family has been affected by the tornadoes, please stop in to 710 Davis (Lauvstad Center) and take any items you need. We have toiletries, feminine hygiene products, batteries, food, gloves, and so much more!

This community has been incredible as well as SWIA families. Thank you for all your donations! 🙌

Today's community meals for those impacted by the tornadoes and those helping with relief efforts have been moved to the Corning First Presbyterian Church (907 Grove Ave)! Lunch served starting at 11:00 a.m. and supper starting at 6:00 p.m.

Wendy Edwards is an instrumental member of our Chamber Board and our community as a whole. Unfortunately, yesterday’s storm took her family’s home and all of their belongings. Thankfully, they are physically okay; however, they are in great need of many items. If you are willing and able to donate any of the items listed below, feel free to deliver to our office at the Lauvstad Center at 710 Davis Ave and we will deliver to them.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those in and around our community who have been affected by today’s storms. If you are willing and able to help, Corning First Presbyterian Church shared more information in their post below ⬇️

Friends--

If you have not heard yet, multiple tornadoes touched down near Corning and the surrounding areas. At this point (May 21st, 5:21 p.m.), I know that Ivan and Judy Wolf and Terry Curry have lost everything. Betsy and Scott Akin have lost their shed, garage, and the house is uninhabitable as the roof is basically entirely gone.

NOW AND THIS EVENING--if you are available the Akins need immediate help! They are attempting to remove everything from the home so are in need of people to help pack and transport. They also could use the following items: TOTES/BOXES/STORAGE CONTAINERS and ANY SORT OF PACKING MATERIAL--newspaper, bubble wrap, etc. THE POLICE ARE ASKING THAT YOU NOT PARK ON THE HIGHWAY! Also, if you have any storage space to offer, that would be appreciated.

If you hear of other families impacted or needing help, please let me know.

Congratulations to Auriginal Designs on receiving a Salute from the Adams Community Ambassadors on April 19th! The Salute kicked off Auriginal Designs' Grand Opening of their new location - 800 Quincy St. Their hours are as follows:

The Board of Directors of the Adams Community Chamber of Commerce is pleased to introduce Jess Armstrong as the new Executive Director. A native of Adams County, Jess is a graduate of Lenox High School. She continued her education by earning an Associate’s degree from Southwestern Community College followed by a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Iowa State University.

With a passion for supporting small businesses, Jess founded Ascend Media, where she assists small business owners with their social media marketing and content creation, along with offering branding and wedding videography services.

In her new capacity, Jess is excited to serve as a resource for our community’s businesses. Community members are encouraged to stop in during her office hours each week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9AM to 1PM, starting today, April 22nd, in Suite 3 at the Lauvstad Center.
