Wanna go skiing in the Alps on an all-inclusive trip for less than it costs to go to Vail? How about a resort in Mexico with a full circus school including flying trapeze and silks? Give your family (or SO or friend or yourself) the gift of experiences and memories that will last a lifetime. Contact me and we'll make it happen! (And yes, this photo is actually me on the flying trapeze. It may be from 13 years ago, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat!)

Holidays are coming up whether you anticipate them with dread or joy. Consider going WAY out of town for them! On a ship, at a resort, wherever you go, you can rest assured that you won't have to host, do dishes, cook, clean up, or fetch a forklift to hoist that druncle out of the recliner! Message me and let's get your holidays booked today! Have you ever done the holidays away from home on a ship or at a resort/hotel? I'd love to hear about it!

Cruise Myth: It's too crowded, and you can never escape how people-y everything is!

FALSE! Listen, I don't handle crowds well, and before I took my first cruise, I was expecting to be absolutely miserable because I was "trapped at sea with 4500 strangers". That SO was not the case. There are always spots, no matter how huge the ship, where you can find a place to call your own. Curl up with a book. Sit and stare at the captivating ocean for hours. Play cards (or Cards Against Humanity) with friends. Work on a jigsaw puzzle. You CAN take advantage of the public spaces and the various opportunities on a ship and still not be amidst a crowd. And, at the end of the day (or in the middle of it), you can always head back to your stateroom. Whether or not you have a balcony, your stateroom is private, quiet, and a great place to decompress. If you DO have a balcony, you might even be fortunate enough to have a hand-woven hammock on that balcony. Or a hot tub. Or a dining table that doubles as a runway, for when you just gotta werk in the middle of a gathering.
Hit that button and contact me to find out more!

Cruise myth: Getting dressed up for dinner is required, formal nights are compulsory, better pack extra fancy clothes for when you're seated at the Captain's table!

FALSE! Not every line even has "formal" or "elegant" evenings anymore, and most have very simple dress codes for the dining venues. For some lines, a good rule is: Don't just wear your swimsuit. Yes, there are those that offer the opportunity to get your glam on, and if that's what you're about, then get after it! But for those of you who feel like you can't cruise because you don't have any evening gowns, please know that this is incorrect. I've never been turned away from a dining room for dress code violations, and I dress in a comfort-forward, fashion-impaired manner pretty much all the time. I tend to tell people to pack everything they think they'll need, and then take out half of it. And, as always, if you have questions, ask your travel advisor! We're here to help.

Cruise myth: Ships are just giant petri dishes, everyone gets sick when they go on a cruise. Gross!

FALSE! You are more likely to get sick at a school (primary or secondary), a shopping mall, or from your pre-packaged salad than you are on a ship. There are hand sanitizer stations practically every 20 feet, crew are all vaxxed and monitored closely, and there's even a person at the entrance to the buffet (if there is one on the ship) standing there with hand sanitizer for all who enter. "Happy happy, washy washy!" Nobody will shame you for wearing a mask if you choose to do so, and people on the crew will frequently wear masks as well. The ship is being cleaned almost constantly and the crew takes pride in having a spotless ship, from the galley to the staterooms. Sailing is SAFE.

The annular eclipse is over for the U.S., which means it's a great time to plan for next year's total eclipse. Most hotels in the path of totality are already sold out, but there are still cruises available! Notably, Princess and Holland America Line have extraordinary sailings that will be positioned off of Mexico for the eclipse, and they'll have scientists on board to enrich your viewing experience. April 2024 will be here before you know it. Call or message me today and let's get your plan in motion!

October is National Plan A Cruise Month! As part of that, I'm going to take on a few myths about cruising, some of which are being perpetuated by cruisers themselves! Not all cruises are the same!

Today's myth: You have to eat in the same dining room, at the same table, with the same people every night for dinner.

UNTRUE!

While many lines do still have a Traditional Dining option, in a main dining room at set times, the majority of them now offer an "Anytime" or "My Time" option for the main dining room, Norwegian Cruise Line is completely freestyle for all of their dining (just show up or make a reservation earlier in the day), allowing you to dine when and with whom you choose. Virgin Voyages has done away with the main dining room entirely, encouraging you to explore the 20+ eateries on board at your leisure.

If doing it the traditional way is your jam, you can still do that, but you absolutely are not bound to it simply because you're on a ship.

We at Go Away! love a good nature-cam. They're a great thing to watch for centering oneself, calming oneself, and seeing other parts of the world. This one is located in Alaska. Whether you wish to see wildlife and mountains on a land tour, watch glaciers calve and see whale migrations on a cruise, or do both with a cruise-tour combo, we can help you get there! Though this year's season is coming to a close, it's not too soon to plan next year's Alaska adventure! In the meantime, and maybe for some inspiration, check out this river cam!

This is a river you want to watch--every summer, brown bears descend on a one-mile stretch of this river in Katmai National Park to fish for salmon. Find out...

We had an amazing evening with Ponant last night at Wood and Paddle in Minneapolis. Great food, excellent service, and fascinating conversation with Captain Florian Richard. He currently helms Le Boreal, and not only gave great insights about expedition cruising but told some wonderful stories about the ways that the Ponant officers and crew surprise and delight their guests. From sneaking up on an iceberg to surprise champagne parties in a Zodiac, it's clear that you just never know what the next moment will hold.

Thank you so much, Preston Caddell - Ponant and Captain Florian Richard for the wonderful evening and very silly photos!

It's cold, rainy, and windy here in the northern MN, which gets me thinking of the beautiful weather when I was in Korea last year. It was my first time exploring that gorgeous country, but it won't be my last. Where's a place you've never gone but would love to visit?

So often, cruise experiences are focused toward the inside of the ship or on top of the ship, rather than looking outward or under the water. Ponant changed that with their Blue Eye underwater lounge. With two underwater portholes, screens showing live underwater footage, you'd think that would be cool enough, but they didn't stop there. The walls and ceiling are designed in such a way as to conduct sound, and hydrophones bring in the sounds from underwater life. Whalesong, dolphin clicks, seal calls, and more can be heard, and even FELT if you're sitting on one of the sofas that vibrate with the sounds coming in. You can read about it in this Conde Nast Traveler article, and you can contact me to book your very own adventure. What would you most like to experience in the Blue Eye lounge?
