OLD OPERATING THEATRE - LONDON
Just by London Bridge and the ultra modern architecture of The Shard, lies a hidden little museum tucked away in the attic of an old church. It was once an old operating theatre where medical students of the nearby St Thomas Hospital would watch amputations and other early operations take place, well before the days of anaesthetic!
So long as you can climb the tiny spiral staircase up to the loft, this makes for a fascinating and fun afternoon and at weekends there are talks given by the guides there which are well worth the extra couple of pounds on the modest usual entrance charge of just £6.50 per adult.
Some of the old operating instruments will make your eyes water, but it’s so interesting to see the very place where such brutal but pioneering procedures took place.
Well worth a visit!
