Happy New Year! Last excursion onboard the AmaLilia was a trip to the amazing Dandarah Temple in Qena. The ceilings in the pillar room are incredible. The only Cleopatra relief and some cool zodiac symbols. Back onboard to relax, check out the bridge and pack for flying to Cairo tomorrow. What is your New Year resolution? Ours is to continue traveling.

Happy New Year’s Eve from Luxor. We visited the East side today: Karnak and Luxor Temples with Avenue of the Sphinxes between the two. We had a papyrus pit stop to learn how to make and paint. Big celebration on board. Hope you have a great New Year.

Aswan to Abu Simbel and back again. The Temple to Ramses II and Nefertari that was moved as Lake Nasser rose. Sailing to Kom Ombo to see the Double Temple to Horus and Sobek (crocodile god). Beautiful sunset with so many boats tied up together. Celebrating life in galabeyas with games and dancing.

Motorboat to Philea (or Angelica Island) where the Temple of Isis was rebuilt
Visit a Nubian village on Lake Nasser
Felucca sailing along the Nile
High Tea at Old Cataract Hotel (of Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile fame)
Nubian music and dance on board

Sailing on the Nile with a stop in Edfu to see the Temple of Horus (falcon). Lectures, relaxation on the sun deck, cooking demonstration and Chef’s Table. Another memorable day in Egypt.

So long Cairo here comes Nile. Before we left Cairo we visited the old town and went to the Hanging Church and Cavern Church of the Coptic and Ben Ezra Synagogue. That makes a hat trick of Abrahamic religions. Off to Luxor to meet the AmaLilia for our Nile River cruise.

New Grand Egyptian Museum is beautiful

Great Pyramids of Giza and Sphinx with a camel ride from the overlook plateau

First night in Cairo and it’s Christmas Eve. We visited the Citadel with an amazing view and Alabaster/Mohammed Ali Mosque. Lunch at the Ritz followed by the Egyptian Museum. Back to St Regis for hot tub and pool and AMA reception. Dinner at St Regis Bar with live music and great conversation with friends. We are truly blessed. Merry Christmas.

Jordan is a wrap. Finished Petra with a visit to the Museum (thanks Japan). Stopped at a Frank castle, Shubak. Then a visit of the Madaba Greek Orthodox Church for a viewing of the Holy Land Map mosaic. Wonderful lunch at Haret Jdoudna. Off to Egypt next.

WOW!
Petra is so much more than the Treasury. A beautiful slot canyon with Roman and Greek influences and then the many carvings.
Wadi Rum is a huge park where we 4x4’d like modern Lawrence of Arabia and Bedouin we then had a huge dinner of zarb (underground oven with basket of veggies on top of meats on top of rice).
Two UNESCO World Heritage Sites ✅

Amman to Mt Nebo (Moses sees the Promised Land) amazing mosaics on display
Mosaic demonstration by local artisans
Dead Sea mud and float incredible experience
Petra and Cave Bar (sip Arak)
