September 27, 2002 at the “fish screen” in Oquossoc Cove at the Rangeley Lake outlet, in the pouring rain, Tim Hiltz from Buxton, Maine landed an 8 lb landlocked salmon on a fly rod!
Fast forward 20 years and 2 days to September 29, 2022, Brayden Hiltz, Tim’s 18 year old son, with passion and determination that we watched for hours last week , landed a 3 lb landlocked salmon at the “fish screen”!
A replica of Tim’s 8 lb landlocked salmon has been on display behind the front counter at Rivers Edge Sports for the past 20 years!

We love hearing and sharing stories of family’s continuing the legacy of sporting our great outdoors!!!

FEATURED WATERFALL: Big Falls

August is the IDEAL time of year for waterfall chasing! ☀️💦 It'll take a long drive on logging roads BUT just a short walk in to find this gorgeous gem with lots of areas to explore. There are both a stream and pools to swim in! Big Falls is part of a 40-acre preserve that also offers multiple public trails for walking and hiking. 🥾

Directions: From Rangeley, take Route 4 North towards Oquossoc, then a right onto Route 16 toward Wilsons Mills. Immediately past the Cupsuptic Campground, turn right onto the Morton Cutoff Road. Stay on this until the road comes to a T, then turn left onto Lincoln Pond Road. Stay on Lincoln Pond Road until you can take a right onto Green Top Road. From Green Top Road, turn left at the Sign for Big Falls. This road eventually dead ends, which is where you can park! 🚗

We’ve mentioned this before but we’re going to remind you again… 😊 This is a picture of tonight’s sunset from the SADDLEBACK MAINE we**am at the top of the Kennebago Quad (the highest lift at the mountain). We’re home tonight getting ready for a “houseful” tomorrow (😊😊💞🥳) and noticed the gorgeous reflection in the East of tonight’s sunset…. sooo we called up the we**am on www.saddlebackmaine.com - click on The Mountain - click on Mountain Report (under Winter) - scrolled down to NEW! MOUNTAIN WEBCAMS - clicked on that - and scrolled to/clicked on Top of the World cam and voila!!! The four arrows going each direction on the bottom right will get you a full screen on your device and, if you scroll through those icons on the bottom, you can get to Last Sunrise (use Lodge Cam for that) and Last Sunset (we recommend Top of the World cam) and you can get a sunset whenever you want!!! Yeahhhh, you can thank us but you really need to thank SADDLEBACK MAINE for this awesome availability to all of us!!! ❤️❤️❤️

For World Migratory Bird Day, we would like to take a moment to call attention to how light pollution impacts migratory birds.

Many birds migrate at night, traveling thousands of miles between breeding and non-breeding grounds. Light pollution is a significant threat to them, causing disorientation when they fly at night, leading to collisions with buildings, disturbing their internal clocks, or interfering with their ability to undertake long-distance migrations.

However, there are solutions such as opting for dark sky friendly lighting (look for IDA's Fixture Seal of Approval), controlling light with motion sensors and timers, and keeping indoor light indoors.
