Scuba diving around New Brunswick!!

Have you visited any of these sites??

By Ali Postma As seasoned divers coming from Canada, my husband Joey and I are no strangers to cold water diving. Our drysuits are well used, and we’ve spent many-a-dive in a brain frozen state of mind. I mean can you blame us when we live in a country that only has four months of summer per year?...

For anyone interested in diving the sea side town of St Andrews:

Saint Andrews by-the-sea may be small in size, but this summer town packs a pretty big dive punch for shore divers willing to brave the Bay of Fundy's tides.

Our own Northern version of moray eels - Atlantic Wolffish!

Keeping things SPOOKY in the Bay of Fundy.

Me peaking out of my den after a full moon weekend that started on Friday the 13th.⠀

Is it safe to set foot in the real world again?⠀

⁣Atlantic wolffish are also known as ⁣seawolf, Atlantic catfish, ocean catfish, devil fish, and wolf eel. Jet blue with a mouth full of scraggly teeth, these bottom dwellers are one of those creatures that are so ugly they're cute. ⠀

Atlantic wolffish are restricted to the cold waters of the North Atlantic Ocean, ⁣and the water can be so cold their blood contains several natural compounds that prevent it from freezing.⠀

Happy Wednesday Everybody!

Enjoy the limited humpdays we have left in the Bay of Fundy before they begin their migration south!!

In the words of our favorite folks at Ocean Quest Adventure Resort: Everyday is humpday!!

Can I get a hell yeah for humpday?

♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

Humpback whales ⁣have a distinctive body shape, with long pectoral fins and a knobbly head. It is known for breaching and performing other distinctive surface behaviors, making it popular with whale watchers.

A humpbacks fluke is as unique as a human fingerprint. The white pattern along with the kicks, notches, and scars make it so scientists can ID and track individuals. 🐋🐳

What a lumpy little sucker!!

Did you know these guys can be found in our very own backyard? In fact, this was photographed at a dive site on Deer Island.

Sometimes cuteness comes in the smallest of packages!!!⠀

♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

Spiny lumpsuckers are the roundest and squishiest things I ever did see. And their name is pretty appropriate - they are spherical balls of joy that look incredibly awkward when swimming and love to adhere to rocks with the sticky disc near their pelvic fins.⠀

These feathery friends are all over the Bay of Fundy, but did you know that puffins are better in the water than in the air??

How cute are puffins? So colourful and so tiny. They are my favorite type of sea bird.

Puffins are kind of like me; despite having legs I'm better at swimming than walking! LOL

Have you ever heard of Deer Island?

If you are visiting New Brunswick this summer make sure to schedule in a pit stop on Deer Island.

Home to the Old Sow tidal whirlpool, this hidden gem is a pretty beautiful place both above and below the water.

Submerging into the cold waters of Deer Island is one of the best ways to appreciate the vibrant array of color the Bay of Fundy hides beneath her surface.

When strolling amid the Bay of Fundy tidepools, beware of spiky sea urchins.

While they are fun to look at as a scuba diver, they are awfully painful if they end up stuck in the bottom of your foot. OUCH!

Has anyone here seen or stepped on a sea urchin?

A little backlighting on some very prickly individuals!

♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

Sea urchins are an easy-to-recognize but often overlooked sea creature.

Their spines and tube feet are found on a ball-and-socket joints, meaning that they can move each of these spikes individually.

ALIEN or FISH?

It's neither! Comb jellies are an INVERTEBRATE commonly found in the Bay of Fundy.

These gelatinous blobs are made up of 99% water and while they look like your typical jellyfish - actually lack "stinging" cells.

Have you seen one of these in the ocean?

Have you ever seen one???

We crab you not, surviving Monday was hard work!

🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀

In the North Atlantic waters of Nova Scotia, there is a ton of macro life - no matter where you turn your mask. Here we witnessed an epic battle of wits as a big hermit crab pestered another smaller one for his shell.

It's a dog-eat-dog world out there, even underwater!
