KATHRYN HAYLETT
Founder & CEO of Your Safari Ltd
Established in 2000, Your Safari was founded by Kathryn Haylett to fulfil her lifelong passion for Africa and its wildlife. After a visit to Kruger National Park in 1999 where she saw photographers crammed into total unsuitable vehicle and being driven around by indifferent guides. She decided that she could do a much better job and went to South Africa to train and qualify as a Safari Guide. She the combined both her love for photography and wildlife and created Your Safari.
Whilst travelling in South Africa she kept overhearing conversations about Etosha National Park in Namibia, and after her first visit there, it was love at first sight. The spectacular wildlife and the stark desert scenery bathed in the exceptional Namibian light made it the perfect photographers’ destination. Kathryn’s passion for her beloved Etosha inspired her to write The Photographer's Guide to Etosha National Park.
Her love for Etosha turned into a love for Namibia itself, and as she explored this diverse and beautiful country, driving along the roads, through fantastic deserts and mountains, staying in hidden lodges and talking to the friendly people she realised she could bring this beautiful Eden to fellow explorers and travellers. She quickly gained a reputation as a good and trusted guide and as she travelled through this sparsely populated country also gained a certain notoriety.
She made contact and started working relationships with wildlife experts. Dr Richard Estes world’s leading expert on African behaviour, The Hanson family from the Africat Foundation, Tommy Hall from Save the Rhino, Tommy Collard Namib desert expert, Dennis Lieberman fro Etendeka, to name but a few.
She found her self being recognised by local people who were strangers but then became friends, and she is now known in many lodges she visits on a regular basis as “Miss Kathryn” or the more affectionate term of “Meme”
Over the last decade Kathryn has shared her passions with many people. Some she has taken on the Your Safari adventure more than once, and many of them have gone on to be personal friends. Harnessing all these experiences and expertise she has now gone on to expand Your Safari with many different destinations and experiences, but not forgetting the unique personal passion that Kathryn has show in creating all her tours over the last 18 years.
