Tiger sharks are named due to their distinct dark stripes that run down the sides of their bodies. The markings resemble the stripes of a tiger! As tiger sharks age, these stripes tend to fade and become less pronounced, but they are still a key characteristic that helps identify them!

Tiger sharks are a completely misunderstood predator and our goal is to spread education about these incredible creatures!

Sharks have been around for millions of years, but their survival is under threat! Shark populations are declining globally due to various human-related factors including:

🦈Overfishing- Sharks are often caught unintentionally (bycatch) in fishing gear targeting other species. Additionally, targeted fishing for sharks, primarily for their fins (for shark fin soup) and other body parts, contributes significantly to their population decline.

🦈Slow Reproduction Rates: Many shark species have relatively slow growth rates and produce few offspring, making them particularly vulnerable to overfishing and other threats. They may take years to reach sexual maturity and produce small numbers of young compared to other fish species.

🦈Climate Change: Alterations in ocean temperature, acidity, and currents due to climate change can impact the distribution and availability of prey for sharks, affecting their survival.

🦈Lack of Protection and Regulation: In some areas, there is a lack of effective management and regulations to protect shark populations. Weak or absent fishing regulations allow for uncontrolled exploitation, leading to population declines.

Conservation initiatives are crucial to ensuring the survival and restoration of shark populations in our oceans. 🦈🌊🤙To learn more, click here:

Sharks play a crucial role in the ocean’s ecosystems. They keep prey species populations at a healthy level and prevent algae overgrowth that advances the decline of coral reefs. Sharks serve as the indicators for a healthy ocean🦈🌊

There are several stereotypes that humans often have about sharks. It's important to note that these stereotypes are often based on misconceptions or exaggerated portrayals rather than factual information. That’s why we loved educating others and changing peoples perspectives on these incredible creatures! 🦈

Here are 3 common stereotypes/misconceptions about sharks:

🌊 Aggressive and Bloodthirsty: Sharks are often portrayed as aggressive creatures that are constantly on the hunt for prey. While sharks are indeed predators, they typically exhibit more caution and curiosity towards humans rather than aggression.

🌊 “Jaws" Perception: The movie "Jaws" released in 1975 contributed to the portrayal of sharks as enormous, vicious creatures that instill fear in people. This perception has persisted in popular culture despite the fact that most sharks are not as large or dangerous as depicted in the movie.

🌊Unintelligent and Instinct-Driven: Another stereotype is that sharks are primitive and unintelligent animals, relying solely on instinctive behaviors. However, research suggests sharks exhibit complex social behaviors and impressive sensory and cognitive capabilities.

It's important to challenge these stereotypes and educate ourselves about the true nature of sharks to foster a better understanding and appreciation for these magnificent creatures!🤙🌊🦈
