Hidden beauty in plain sight.

When it comes to religious art in Milan, minds usually point directly to The Last Supper or the Duomo di Milano. But just around the corner from the former, behind the exterior of a very average looking church, are the incredible paintings and mosaics that adorn Chiesa di San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore.

From Apulia to Australia.

During my recent visit to Italy, I was gifted the experience of having a custom shirt created. There were endless fabric options, and true to form, it was a crisp white shirt for me.

Thank you to for the wonderful craftsmanship, and the for the experience. It’s a “souvenir” that will do more than sit on a shelf and collect dust.

Masseria Torre Maizza, a Rocco Forte Hotel

Whilst only a small masseria with 40 rooms, this five starred hotel shares the best of Puglian luxury. Each suite has its own private outdoor space, some with a small pool (I woke to the views of a gorgeous ancient olive tree).

Music is piped underwater of the main pool, which you can overlook whilst enjoying breakfast. The attention to detail and service was unrivalled.

Thank you to Franco Girasoli, and all the wonderful people that create such an amazing experience at Masseria Torre Maizza.

I would like to apologise to the housekeeping staff, after I emptied my suitcase everywhere in a hurry only to find my room key I was searching for was still in the door.

Plus a shout out to for fabulous taste in scarves, which has made an appearance in the post.

Stories of a life that is fading away.

Visiting the town of Sternatia was liking taking a trip back in time. Located in the Salentino region of Puglia, this special place is steeped in unique history and is inhabited by the Griko people, an ethnic Greek minority in southern Italy who speak Griko, a variant of Greek.

This was a very deep insight into the diversity of a region, which has undergone so much transformation in recent years. As the newer generation come through the local dialect is fading out, and within a few decades completely gone.

Meeting the aging residents of this town, filled with stories and poetry of their life in the small part of the world was a truly wonderful experience.

Puglian perfection.

After sitting dormant and abandoned for over 100 years, it took a two year full restoration to bring this masseria back to life. Under the watchful and creative eye of its owner, this 10 room and suite property was a highlight to visit on my recent trip to Puglia.

As both a hotel or private villa, and just outside the hustle and bustle of Lecce, this experience is one I would recommend for anyone travelling to Puglia.

Sundays are for family, food and Ferrari.

I had the pleasure of spending time with a local family from Taranto, with one of the best collections of Italian motors in the world. This included a Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 which I instantly fell in love with.

But more impressive than the collection of vintage cars, motorbikes, and an endless amount of Vespa’s, was the warmth of family who are passionate about life and welcoming us into it.

Thank you for your incredible hospitality, and next time I’m in Puglia I’m looking forward to hitting the road with you.
