Can you tell us a bit about why Hike for Life was born? The idea behind the mission? And what it is that Hike for Life offers?
I was blessed with numerous hiking and camping mentors that helped me learn the basics when I was young. During my military career I would return to Colorado looking forward to climbing another 14er and would plan for the trip months in advance. While hiking I would regularly meet people that were out on the trails, who had done much less planning and who were often under-equipped and unaware of the weather risks. I enjoyed helping others learn and I enjoyed passing on my own lessons! I would occasionally offer tips to those interested in learning.

Have you ever been somewhere so beautiful and so special that you wish you could just tell the whole world about it?
You know the place.... for me it was Banff - and to this day it stands to be one of my favorite places on this earth. The first time I went I stumbled upon Moraine Lake, and to my astonishment, seemingly had the place to myself (it was May, there was still snow on the ground, and must have been the first day the road was open for the season.)
I remember gasping in awe at the beauty surrounding me, but I also remember wishing there was somebody to share in the moment with.
I ventured back to the same spot a few years later with some close friends of mine, and while it was a different time, with the sun shining bright, and a snowless ground cover. It was a different feeling, a better feeling, because I had people I loved to share in the awe!

"This day was full of everything happy! The sun was shining, the air was fresh, and the smells were everything you could have dreamed of! It was the perfect Colorado day, and we felt lucky to be in the high alpine so early in the hiking season. I had just met these 3 women, who at the time turned into my best companions that summer. It was the beginning of something I had never had before. 💫
I've always struggled to find women who I vibe with, I usually just hang around with guys. But these women taught me the beauty in embracing my feminine side. They taught me that girl groups are essential for my mental state of mind. 💛
Having a girl (or guy) tribe is so important, it allows you to be vulnerable in your endeavors without judgement. It allows you to bond with the same s*x. Leaving you feeling empowered in areas where maybe you have felt undervalued, inadequate, or simply unsure of..." - .mandarich

As in most work environments, you learn to work with a team. You learn what you love about them and in some cases what you can’t stand about them. You spend most of your days, if not a large majority of life with your coworkers. 💻
But no matter how great your work environment is, you’re always going to run into tension, because … it’s inevitable. Somebody forgets to send an email, or your project member misses a deadline, or maybe you entirely space on the fact that you had a meeting at all?!
This is why it’s so important that your team (or leadership) makes a conscious effort to create opportunities where everyone can interact with each other, not just as coworkers but as humans. Because let’s face it, other than the occasional office parties, do you find yourself really socializing amongst your coworkers?
Today we pose the sentiment of seeing your coworkers for who they are, human beings, in the outdoors. 💫
To hear all our thoughts on this topic, head over to our blog!
An article about the importance of playing outside with your coworkers!

Ready for a hike full of storytelling, history, beautiful scenery .... oh, and yea - GOATS!? 🐐
"It's the goats or "girls" as we call them, that welcome you to the 59er's trail hike!"
Valerie and Jessie, add some spice to their guided hike, packed full of history and a unique experience.
The goats will walk with you, around you and among you! 💫
On our adventure you'll set off on the miners’ trail - up Arkansas Mountain, named for the Acansa Indians. Retracing the trail of the '59ers - you'll see old mine portals, the Cloud City school house, Cornish stone walls built to shore up hillsides, mine portals and donkey-cart chutes, blacksmith forge, and more!
You'll get to see blow holes - where miners tested for gold, and triple pine tree trunks growing over old mining tunnels!
🔸️The land reveals many secrets of our past when you know how and where to look.....🔸️
Excited for a history filled, story-time, hiking, goat endeavor!?
To follow up yesterday's post, today we wanted to highlight the LEAVE NO TRACE principles: 🌿
🔸️Plan Ahead and Prepare
🔸️Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
🔸️Dispose of Waste Properly
🔸️Leave What You Find
🔸️Minimize Campfire Impacts
🔸️Respect Wildlife
🔸️Be Considerate of Other Visitors
Now if you don't know what these are, we invite you to spend some time educating yourself.
As we move through the world, and through the outdoors, we ask that you always come from a place of respect.
We come from the earth, and we return to it.
It holds more secrets than you can imagine...

"In July we submitted Blaine Mountain.
The hike to the top was around 4 miles, the first part began on a trail that connected in with another, as much as Jenny Lake and Blaine Mountain were on the map and attained in a semi regular basis, they weren't. There was no trail to the top, it ended just a quarter mile shy of the lake.
We debated our route, do we head to the lake first - then up the bowl? Or do we follow the ridge up that's a bit further to our left?
We ended up choosing a route on our left that went up. But it was a thick bush wack. After about a mile of choosing our steps carefully, sharing a set of hiking poles. We reached the ridge-line! It was quite a beautiful sight, a perfect afternoon well spent.
While this hike wasn't the "end all, be all" or the gnarliest endeavor set out on. It did get me thinking. But i'm always thinking... 💫
Being out there makes you undoubtedly fully present. While the presence is part of the joy of the experience, there's another piece of reflection that comes into play.
The bushwhack. 🌳
Life is like a bushwhack, to get to the best places, you have to choose your steps carefully.
It won't always be easy, sometimes it will be hard, and sometimes you'll want to turn around, but you'll find yourself in places that others don't dare to go.
Life would be boring if you always stayed on trail. 🗻
(*Obviously PLEASE educate yourself when you plan to hike in an area and leave a trail. Leave No Trace still applies to our practices! Leaving the trail in places where it is designated to not leave the trail is a non negotiable. Disclaimer done.) "

The human condition, it's something we all fall victim too, because, well – we are all human!

Water and mountains have a way of bringing us back to reality. They highlight two pivotal facets of life, the masculine and the feminine.
The masculine being the strong, stable and action based areas of life. We turn to people like we turn to mountains. We look for support and strength to get through the hard times. We also lean into action when we know there's change that needs to take place. The mountains provide us, and remind us of these neccessary parts of life.🗻
Water on the other hand leans into the feminine areas of life, the areas where we learn to go with the flow, surrender to control and fall into the word "trust." 🌊
Where the mounatins meet the water, is where all areas of life come together to remind us of the beauty that we can't have one without the other! 💫
How do you spend your time outside to lean into the support you need? Let us know 👇 @ Stanley, Idaho

Reconnecting the world with the great outdoors
Whether it’s simply sitting around a warm campfire or surfing in the crisp waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the time we spend connecting with the outdoors is unique and special. It presents us with an opportunity to be present and at peace and creates lasting memories.
The founders of Outdoorful were introduced to the wonders of the great outdoors at a young age. Winter months were spent snowboarding and playing pond hockey, and summer meant it was time for fishing lakes in Northern Ontario or racing down sand dunes in Cape Cod.
That early connection they share to the outdoors played a big part in who they are today.
After spending a considerable amount of time evaluating the current state of the outdoor industry, brothers Jeff Servos and Jordan Servos discovered a range of obstacles preventing tens of millions of willing participants from engaging in the outdoors every year.
That’s when they made the decision to combine their personal passions and career aspirations to form Outdoorful. Their vision is simple--to reconnect the world with the great outdoors.
They believe that the outdoors should be made easily accessible to everyone in order to benefit from the physical and mental health benefits, live a more balanced lifestyle, and create lasting memories.
Outdoorful is a marketplace for world-class outdoor adventures. Discover your next adventure with Outdoorful.
