Tourism Minister announced today that action will be taken against anyone and everyone who is operating the Tourism Business without a MOTAC license.

The task force will go all out after Chinese New Year.

Applying for a Tourism License is quite straight forward.

A humble appeal to all those unlicensed agent, we don’t want you to be out of business but instead encourage you to apply for a Tourism Licence and operate your business legally and you will be proud of it.

Please do not engage with un-licensed Travel Agents who do not operate with an approved license by Ministry of Tourism and Culture (MOTAC)

Tourism Industry Act

The Tourism Industry Act states that only companies with a valid license can operate a travel agency or tour operating business.

Penalties

The first offense for operating an unlicensed travel agency can result in a fine of up to RM500,000 or 10 years in jail. Subsequent offenses can result in a fine of up to RM5,000 for each day the offense continues.

Illegal tour businesses

Tour businesses that sell packages and arrangements from a table, kiosk, booth, or shop corner are likely illegal.

Legal action

Business owners who operate a tourism business without a license can face legal action.

To avoid using an unlicensed tour operator, you can:

Check the list of licensed tour operators on the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) website

Only use the services of licensed tour operators for tourism activities
