The Northern Colorado Luncheon was held yesterday in the City of Greeley at the City Center South. A big thanks to presenter Paul Trombino III, P.E., Public Works Director, who did a great job of discussing the City of Greeley and upcoming opportunities and to Steven Younkin, PE, PTOE, RSP1, Deputy Chief Engineer at the City of Greeley who took attendees on a walking tour of some of the project areas.

The ITE Western Slope was a full day event that started with a two-hour roundabout workshop and then hosted three speakers; Kathleen Wanatowicz, Jerry Law, and Mark Johnson. They spoke about public involvement tips and tricks, a roundabout construction project in Gypsum, CO, and a focused session on multimodal safety at roundabouts. The event was very well attended with approximately 40 attendees!

A huge thank you to all who attended last night's Meet 'n Greet with DOTI at the Wright Room in the heart of Downtown Denver. DOTI's Wesley Dismore, PE emceed the panel discussion which included Jennifer Hillhouse, Director of Transportation & Mobility Planning, Matt MacLachlan, Director of Transportation Implementation and Emily Gloeckner, Director of Transportation & Mobility. Each of the Directors discussed their roles and their visions for our city. It was a fun evening with networking, challenging ice breakers and even college football banter.

ITE CO/WY Section and ITS Rocky Mountain Chapter partnered for the 2023 ITS Rocky Mountain Annual Conference held at The Ashley Ridge venue in Littleton, Colorado. It was an incredible experience, full of innovative technology and great networking opportunities. It was very inspiring and the attendees had the chance to meet like-minded individuals, making it a worthwhile experience overall. The 2023 ITE Mountain District Annual Meeting in St. George, Utah was a huge success! With almost 300 attendees total, including over 60 attendees from the CO/WY ITE Section, the meeting was a great chance for ITE members to connect. The CO/WY ITE Section was awarded the 2023 Outstanding Section Award- a huge thanks to all of YOU for continuing to make our ITE Section so successful!

Congratulations to our own CO/WY ITE secretary/treasurer, Melissa Gende, on winning the 2023 Rising Star Award. Thanks for all you do, Melissa!

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Deriving its name from combining June and nineteenth, it is celebrated on the anniversary of the order by Major General Gordon Granger proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865.

ITE CO/WY Section would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you who attended the ITE Golf Tournament at Arrowhead Golf course. Your presence helped make this year's event a roaring success.

We had an amazing turnout, with old and new friends alike coming together to celebrate our industry. The day was filled with laughter, great memories, and excellent golf.

We also would like to give a special thanks to our sponsors, volunteers, and staff for their incredible contributions to the tournament. Your hard work made all the difference in ensuring that everything ran smoothly, and we couldn't have done it without you.

Congratulations to Iris La, the recipient of the CO/WY ITE Student of the Year award for 2023! Iris is currently a student at the University of Colorado Denver and a full-time Project Engineer at the City of Aurora (we hear they are busy these days). Previously, Iris was a recipient of CO/WY ITE Graduate Level Scholarship and the Executive Committee Leadership Award.
 
This award recognizes Iris La’s efforts in bringing back the CU Denver ITE student chapter back from the depths of the COVID slump to have regular meetings, focus, and a future. Iris was unanimously elected president by her peers and deservedly so.
 
Through Iris’s research at school, she is working on pulling the curtain back on oversimplified bicycle infrastructure safety issues. Through harnessing infrastructure data, Iris’s research examines street safety while considering cyclist exposure and examining the relationship between the types of bicycle facilities and the street type they are implemented on, while improving the Engineer’s understanding of practical applications instead of one size fits all solutions. 
 
In the words of Iris’ advisor, Dr. Marshall, “She is a future leader in our field and will represent ITE well for many years to come. Better yet, she is a leader already and deserves recognition for her achievements”.
