Hey All! AWR first wants to give e a big shout out to everyone that attended the Black Hills Event, benefitting Owl Moon Raptor Center! Over 2600 people attended!
If you missed that event or want to do it again, check our Events for This Saturday the 16th. We will be at The Backyard Naturalist in Olney! Both these beautiful Birds will be there as well! Renaissance, our Barbary Falcon and Juan Carlos our infamous Crested Carrara!

We also want to give y'all an UPDATE!!!
2 Weeks ago we introduced you to our new Peregrine Falcon, Layla, who has a Injury to her Talon sustained when she was very young. Well we took her to an Amazing Vet and we've got a plan in place to help Layla out!! Right now we opted for the easiest an least Invasive option to try so Layla is now sporting some new Footwear to hopefully help her foot to stay open. The new Boot will be kept on for at least a month and Layla will have to stay in the Hospital for observation the entire time. SO fingers crossed this works and we'll be sure to keep y'all updated!! :D

Just to give you a peek at what you'll be seeing, check out Levi, our young Burrowing Owl and Spencer our GORGEOUS Spectacled Owl! Both will be appearing at our shows this Sunday the 10th and next Saturday the 16th!! :D

Hey All! We want to introduce a new AWR family member Layla our Peregrine Falcon! Isn't she a looker? 🤩🤩 she's captive bred and suffered a foot injury when very young. Unfortunately it went unnoticed until too late. It really doesn't cause her any issues since she doesn't have to catch prey. However we wanna make sure everything that can be done is being done so she has an appointment next Thursday to reevaluate her I jury to see if there's anything we can do. We'll keep y'all posted!!

Well now that Loki, our newest Eurasian Eagle Owl, has been formally introduced. Let's all wish him a Happy 5 month Birthday!

Not sure why we never posted about our other baby this year but we did have another. Loki our newest Eurasian Eagle Owl hatched on May 1st! He's been training since he was 6 weeks old and already done many programs!

Hello All! AWR has been getting a lot of inquiries about attending the Nature Visions Photo Expo in Manassas, VA..
Unfortunately we will not be participating this year.
We do appreciate all the positive feedback we've gotten from our past appearances!
We would like to put it out there that we are definitely open to holding photography sessions for those in, or visiting, the area around Deep Creek, MD.
Just message Deron on the page and we'll discuss it on a case by case type thing. :D

Well look at our little guy now! Isn't he the. Cutest ever!! It's now 6 weeks and 3 days since hatch and he is now flying and has been since about 5 and a half weeks!

Deron isn't the only one who has a new bird! Sherry has this little guy coming really soon! This is a Black-throated Magpie Jay! First pic is Mid August at hatch weighing 9 grams. The next are 1, 2, and 3 weeks!

Here's our baby Burrowing Owl at Day 22 and a whopping 102 grams! In 3 weeks it's gone from 7.6g to 102g!! Wow!!

Cuteness ALERT!!!!
This is the latest member of the AWR Family our very first baby Burrowing Owl!! :D He hatched out 6 days ago at 7.6 grams and today is a whopping 13.3 grams!! :D This is a species we've wanted to breed for awhile now and we couldn't be happier!! :D

Thanks to YOU, the volunteers, and of course our Birds, Owl Moon was able to raise more than $12,000! That'll help a LOT of wild raptors!

When doing our programs people are facinated when we tell them how fast raptors actually grow. Here's an example of just how fast that is!!! In this pic there is a 2 day old Eagle Owl and a 30 day old Eagle Owl. I'm sure y'all can figure out which is which!! :D :D

Check out this Beauty!!! This is the newest member of the AWR Family a 1 month old Crested Caracara!! Caracaras are a very different kind of raptor. They more or less act a lot like vultures but are technically large tropical black-and-white falcon!! Very intelligent and are just as likely to walk as to fly! :D

We had a Special Guest visit us at the show this weekend at Backyard Naturalist!! Meet Flat Stanley who came to see us all the way from Bolles School in Jacksonville Florida!!! Stanley got to meet a few of our birds and here he is with Shyeanne our Eurasian Eagle Owl. :D :D
