Cindy has a long history of wanting to "restore". From El Camino's (still on the "bucket list") to furniture to her first "Gilbert"....she see's the potential in almost everything. Tony likes to see Cindy smile...and comes with a wealth of talent for being able to take things apart and put them back together just a little better than they originally were. In their primary business, a whole lot of
travel was coming their way in 2015. Cindy, in her typical fashion, decided a "renovated" trailer would be the answer. But, do we want a 1990's glamped out model...or should we bite the big one and take on a vintage restoration? One trip to the Canned Ham Man in California and the answer was clear. Let's restore a Vintage Trailer...and let's do it with the full spirit of restoration...start to finish. We started to look at trailers on Craigslist....from Seattle to Santa Cruz, Portland to Panama City, FL and found we were living in the Mecca of low prices when it came to project trailers. But buying a "ready to restore" trailer lost some of the romance of true renovation. What about the long forgotten trailer sitting in a farmers field? Or was that just a little too romantic? Thanksgiving Weekend, Tony and Cindy took a drive in the country...knocked on 3 doors with old trailers sitting in the yard and the third door answered. A quick look at the owners "hunting camper", $500 cash and a quickly scribbled bill of sale and we were the proud owners of our first Vintage Trailer. In honor of the original Gilbert (a van Cindy dreamed of restoring....until on their 3rd date...Tony broke the restoration dollar amount to her and broke her heart)...we're dedicating all things Vintage to Gilbert's memory. And Cindy is sure, that somewhere in the part of the sky where van's go when they're laid to rest....Gilbert is guiding this journey every step of the way.
