They don’t call it Cloudland Canyon for nothing! Haven’t seen the sun shine in 3 dang days. However, it’s very quiet and there’s hardly anyone here. Our version of isolation....yurt glamping style this trip. I will say the are very clean. This yurt, while more expensive than camping is heated with electricity inside and out, fire pit and picnic table. There’s a playground in the yurt village, but our kids have stayed away from it entirely much to their disappointment. This park while cloudy is very neat and the trails fun. @ Cloudland Canyon State Park

The Baughn’s spring break camping trip is underway! Since the drive to our camping spot is 10 hours away we decided to split it up. Of course we had to make a detour to visit Angie’s Subs in Jax Beach! 20 years of eating subs there and now we’re passing it on to our kids and telling them about the good ole days there and what it used to be like. This picture was the sunrise at the end of our street on Watson in Indialantic yesterday morning before we left. Today we’ll drive another 5 hours or so before making it to Cloudland Canyon State Park in far North Georgia near the Tennessee border.

I don’t want to go home. I don’t want to sleep in my own bed. I don’t want to go back to our routines. I want to stay in the mountains all summer and explore. Evan got to add some more stamps to his National Parks book. We’ve seen so much and it’s been awesome. The kids (most days) are such good little travelers and explorers. I hope they remember their experiences and I hope they look back and smile. 4,989 miles. Going to to look at a camper van tonight before flying out of Salt Lake tomorrow.

Pettit Lake in is amazing! Today was absolutely perfect without a cloud in the sky. Kids played in the lake, found a random creek to build a dam, skipped more rocks, had some delicious ice cream wandered around checking out some shops then finished the day enjoying some of their delicious craft brews and food.

Yesterday we hiked to Titus Lake. It still had snow but was a really nice hike. We tried to find a hot spring but it had been washed away. Decided to skip rocks instead.

What would Craters of the Moon be without moon pies! I think I saw the brightest rainbow I have ever seen in my life. Seeing and feeling the old lava rock was fascinating. I wish I could have captured what my eyes saw in the sky tonight. It was amazing. It was like a painting. We explored a little and then of course it rained. We snuggled the kids up in the back which they thought was great and they fell asleep. We Waited and waited and the sky opened up. There is no outside light at Craters of the Moon so it’s practically pitch black.

We stayed in Butte for a night to break up the drive for the kids. Someone told us Butte is the armpit of America. For the few hours we were in Butte we saw Berkeley Mine and found an epic playground/water park for the kids and . It’s one of the coolest playgrounds we’ve ever seen! Then we drove to Idaho. I think I am in love with Idaho. We passed Craters of the Moon and a National Laboratory with land that went on for days. I am fairly certain there is stuff buried in the ground, in the mountain, and some nuclear device hidden out there.

Ever wondered what the middle of nowhere looks like? It looks like this in Idaho near the Idaho National Laboratory where they do all this secret nuclear reactor stuff. We made our way from Montana to Hailey, Idaho and 90% of the drive was absolutely amazing. When we post our top ten on this trip this will rank right up at the top due to the lack of the people on the road.

Yesterday we tried to hike to Grinnell Glacier. I was a little disappointed that we couldn’t make it plus the weather sucked. We went up about 3.5 miles (2,000 ft elevation climb). Then we got to parts that were too dangerous to try with the kids. Lots of snow and ice with water running underneath. I think Stephen Baughn and I would have been fine but Karen Good Hamilton told me before I left “don’t do anything stupid with those kids,” so we turned around. What we did see was beautiful but I am bummed there is so much we can’t get to. Guess it just means we have to come back a different time of the year.

Did a couple hikes on the East side of today. It was pretty of what we could see but windy and rainy. Of course there were some waterfalls and a picnic with a view. Then we randomly drove to 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 for dinner and a geocache. Tomorrow is going to be a long hike if the trail is clear of snow.

Even when it’s about to pour on a 4 mile hike is beautiful! The first part of the trail today was a quick 1 mile jaunt to a rock cliff. We saw a beach area from up top and thought we could hike close to it so we took a different trail about another mile further, had lunch, and threw more cupcakes. We then jogged back to the car 2 miles in about 20 minutes, both kids included uphill and downhill before the rains unleashed on us. Tomorrow we’re heading to Canada for the day specifically before heading to the East side of to hike with the kiddos.

Yesterday was an easy hike type of day. Evan hurt his toe the other day and was still bothering him. So we taped two toes together to see what he could do. We hiked a total of 7 miles mostly flat terrain but it weaved through the cedar trees and along McDonald Creek with a waterfall. We saw 2 moose and 2 deer. A good warm up hike for what awaits us to Grinnell Glacier on Friday. Approximately 8 miles with a 2,000 foot elevation climb.

We weren’t going to go to Yellowstone on this trip but so glad we spent some time there yesterday. We climbed huge rocks and spent some time just sitting by a beautiful lake. We saw two black bears, elk, baby great horned owls, a golden eagle, pronghorns, mom and baby pronghorn, hundreds of bison and not to mention the pure beauty of the park..

Fun day today visiting Montana’s first state park at the Lewis And Clark Caverns and shopping during downtown Bozeman’s Friday night stroll! If you’re in Bozeman make sure you stop by The Montana Scene! Such a cool store with local clothing, hats, stickers and Montana local gear. We’re definitely bringing some stuff back to Florida with us!

First full day in Bozeman...hiked up to Palisade falls. When I say up to the falls I mean off the trail rock scaling straight up climbing to the top. It was absolutely amazing! The lead up to the waterfall is a paved walking path. The base of the falls is near too with some caves. Thanks to for the extra hike suggestion and watching the kiddos!

Today was a day filled mostly by driving. We turned a 2.5 hour drive into a 7 hour mini adventure. Did a small loop hike through a little snow to try and find a Geocache...no such luck. Tomorrow we’re waking up early and braving the impending storms with the kids for a 7 mile round trip, 2000 foot elevation climb to the Darby Canyon Wind Cave in the Tetons. If the rain holds it should be amazing.
