On Friday, May 17, our soccer family lost a very dear friend, Paul Tax.
Paul’s family has provided this statement for us to share with you:
It is with great sadness that we pass along this message on behalf of our entire family to those he (Paul Tax) was connected to and close to in the soccer community. Our dad passed away in a tragic and unexpected accident this past Friday, May 17. While we are still struggling through this loss and do not have all the answers, we want to extend our invitation to commemorate his life following this devastating loss. There will be a funeral mass held in his honor at 2pm on Thursday, May 23 at The Basilica of Saint Lawrence - all who knew him are welcome.
Paul’s reach in our community was exceptionally deep and meaningful at many levels and with numerous organizations.
In addition to serving Asheville Buncombe Youth Soccer Association as a member of the Board of Directors, he also generously gave of his time as a Recreation Soccer Coach and was HFC Team Manager for several of his children’s teams.
He played in the Asheville Buncombe Adult Soccer Association, most recently in the over-40 league, and was very involved in soccer officiating at the youth, high school, and adult levels as a US Soccer Federation Referee.
Paul’s passion, kindness and cheerful nature was radiant, endearing, and inspiring. His influences on our organizations were important and numerous, but the example he set as a caring human being in his interactions with so many of us will leave a lasting imprint.
Our youth, adult, and referee soccer communities have established a GoFundMe page to assist Paul’s family with the overwhelming expenses associated with his sudden passing. You can contribute here: https://gofund.me/6968315b
