When I first began crocheting, I never could have imagined coming this far. I struggled a lot with learning the basics, and I actually quit out of frustration for quite some time. I picked it up again a year later after finding a book with Halloween amigurumi patterns, and I never looked back! At first I merely followed the patterns in the book, adding my own detailing to reflect characters from v
ideo games and tv shows, but after a while I picked up enough knowledge to try making my own patterns. I had no idea how it would turn out. I finished up my first project, which was a Jumbo Roronoa Zoro from One Piece, at the end of August 2014 as a birthday gift for one of my friends. One month later I was already shipping out my first commission! I tried my hand at many more projects throughout the year, and when the summer of 2015 rolled around, I sold wares at the Otaku Craft Fair at Colassalcon. Before going to the convention though, I had to decide on a name for my business. I spent a while discussing it with my sister, and we ended up researching crochet. Upon discovering that crochet originated in France, we came up with the name “Le Petite Ami”. It means “the little friend” in French, which we thought was perfect because these little creations make great friend! Shortly after the convention, I officially started Le Petite Ami. I don’t think I have ever had another experience that has shaped me so much as a person. I have learned so much while crocheting. More than how to make patterns, I’ve learned how to communicate with people and to never sell myself short. With each project I make, I increase my understanding of crochet. With each stitch, I hone my skills. Spending hours working hard to share a work 100% my own with someone who finds the creation captivating? I’ve never done anything more fun!
