It was a beautiful day for our last port before a week of sea days. We spent most of our time ashore enjoying a leisurely lunch. In case they didn't show up in your feed, our Prague and Salzburg albums have been posted. The rest will have to wait until we get back to the US.

Our shore excursion in Tenerife was canceled so we wandered around town on our own. And went shopping! (Gasp) Behind us is the iconic Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín.

No, we didn’t swap retirement for a career in mining. But we DID tour some of the tunnels beneath Gibraltar during our port call today. Did you know that 34 miles of tunnel—some dug as early as the 1700s—wind their way below “the rock”? All of it for defense and/or protection of the Straits. Not including rambling in town, we explored some 6.3 miles of trails and caves today.

First port today. Took a bus 90 minutes to Florence. (We're in front of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore "Il Duomo" here.) Then another hour on to Pisa.

The Vittorio Monument is, uh....imposing. If you zoom in on this photo you will see that the arrow is pointing at Dave taking advantage of the elevation to get some sunset shots.

Took the train to Naples, where our friends Jake and Amanda are living. We toured Pompeii Archeological Park----so amazing. But our visit with friends was even better.

Dave took this photo at the far end of the Forum looking back at the Colosseum. We toured both today, as well as Palatine Hill.

Our Airbnb host took us on a walking tour of a few churches and a library. She introduced us to espresso zabaglione. In the afternoon we wandered around on our own and found the remains of Ponte Palatino (pictured), a bridge built in 241 BC.

We made it! Our Airbnb is 1/4 mile from the Colosseum. (And there's a gelato place on the corner.)

Our friend Mike is celebrating a milestone birthday by taking a Eurail trip around Europe. He happened to be in Vienna on the big day----and so were we! We were honored to be part of his celebration by taking him out for Wiener schnitzel.

We took a tour of the UN at Vienna. Learned about the various projects on which that branch is focused.

Took advantage of a beautiful clear day to stroll around the Ringstrasse and check out the Christmas Market---which opened last night, just in time for our visit. (Yes, that's glühwein in Kelly's mug.)

Rode the funicular up to the fortress today---cold and windy though it was. But that's why they make glühwein and hot chocolate, right? In a couple hours we're on the train to Vienna.

Yes, we did it---the Sound of Music Tour. Even rewatched the movie a few days before flying to Europe. The trip to Mondsee (where the wedding scene was filmed) was worth the price of the tour. We enjoyed it.

We were on the train to Salzburg before the sun rose. But that gave us time to walk around the old town before the sun set again. Sing with us...The hills are alive....

Got to experience Star Wars music performed by the Prague Symphony Orchestra in the dazzling Smetana Hall. Part of the line-up, appropriately, was Holst's "The Planets." Perfect end to a week in this beautiful city.

Took a day trip to the lovely town of Kutná Hora, home of the Sedlec Ossuary, a couple beautiful churches, an ancient silver mine, and some good local wine.

Toured Prague Castle today. (This is the torture exhibit.) And we wandered around the lovely Petrin Park.

No trip to Prague is complete without viewing the Astronomical Clock. Installed in 1410, it's the oldest astronomical clock still in operation.

We tried trdelnik ("chimney cakes") today. It's pastry cooked on a dowel, and then filled with cream or ice cream. We're fans. 👍👍

Late start due to workouts, so after lunch (and drinking chocolate) we wandered around the old town and into the castle grounds to get a feel for Prague.
