Many of our Easter traditions aren't happening this year. No cute pics with cuddly chicks and bunnies in adorable matching outfits or with the Easter Bunny. No community flashlight egg hunt. No kicking off the big day worshipping at church in our Sunday's best followed by gathering round a table with our loved ones. But Easter is NOT cancelled, just as the forces of evil couldn't stop it nearly 2000 years ago. And just as Christ arose, He's now calling us to join Him, and rise up! NOW is the time to rise up to be His hands and feet using the gifts with which he's uniquely blessed us. God's ways are not ours. We have to trust He has a plan for ALL of us, ALWAYS. And we have to put our faith in Him alone--not in a shot, in the economy or anything other Earthly substitute. Only by trusting and fixing our eyes on Him may we experience the perfect peace that may only be found through Him, through ANY storm (Isaiah 26:3).

Seriously, is stuffing your fears with food, Tiger King and (fill in your personal blank here) really helping you...or anyone? We were each created for a Divine purpose. For such a time as this. NOW is the time we're needed more than ever to share God's Light into this world that so desperately needs it.

Life is in the present moment. It's not in longing for the past or counting down the days until it can return to normal. Things will NEVER be the same. But with the exception of those who have/will suffer devastating losses, that doesn't have to be a bad thing.

When Isaac Newton stayed home to avoid the plague, he used the time to develop calculus and discover the laws of gravity and optics. That's not going to be you and me, doesn't have to be.
Every day we get to choose our attitude and be in the driver's seat of our own lives. Use this time to reflect, be grateful, grow and give! Rise up. Make a difference and offer hope.

Here's me taking my first step. Stay tuned ...

Good deaths start with care for the dying and for their families that supports their wishes and helps them do things like crossing things off their bucket lists, conducting life reviews and making memories with loved ones. Unfortunately, this can't happen when most people wait for their doctors to bring up hospice care. Watch Iowa Public Television tonight at 9 p.m. to see why this is a problem.

FRONTLINE follows renowned writer and surgeon Atul Gawande as he explores the relationships doctors have with patients who are nearing the end of life.

Good for these folks for taking charge of how they would like to be remembered! My favorite is Mr. McGroarty's, which is referenced in this article. Here's an excerpt: "Kevin J. McGroarty, 53, of West Pittston, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014, after battling a long fight with mediocracy."

Holding my toddler a bit tighter this week and am overcome with emotion preparing to sing this song at a service for a family who has lost theirs. My heart just breaks for their loss, but I'm praying they find some comfort as the writers of the song did after losing their baby.
