Sitting at the confluence of the Mekong River and the Nam Khan, Luang Prabang is a major city in north central Laos that consists of 58 adjacent villages combined into one administrative center. Centered on a small peninsula at the joining of the two major rivers, Luang Prabang is famed for the hundreds of Buddhist temples and monasteries, and for the daily monastic pilgrimage for alms.

With its dense, dark jungle, glistening rice fields, and the abundance of tea that covers the mountains in a green blanket, Laos is a country where the landscape changes color like a chameleon. One of the most ethnically diverse countries in southern Asia, the geographic location of Laos as the crossroads of Asia is reflected in its many indigenous ethnic peoples.

As with most tropical countries in Asia, Laos has something for everyone throughout the whole year. While some seasons are better than others, and it follows the typical high season / low season pattern for tourism, there is no single time of year when tourists are not seen.

Despite having a modern eco-tourism industry, Laos is still often known as the forgotten land of Southeast Asia, and is normally covered by tourists as part of a wider trip to the surrounding countries as an extension. A river surrounded by limestone cliffs rising out of the rice fields. Tam Coc is often compared to Halong Bay on the dry and probably Vietnam’s most underrated destination. The Tam Coc river is definitely as beautiful as Halong Bay. This UNESCO World Heritage is located in the Ninh Binh province. It is still much less touristy compared to Halong Bay but it’s sad that so many people skip it.
