Brian Carlson Designs Custom Residential and Custom Commercial Interior Design I have enjoyed an interior design career in Los Angeles since 1987.

In that time, I have had the privilege of watching clients’ lives transform in response to their environment. My interior design career informed my choice to take a sabbatical to attain my master’s degree in psychology (www.briancarlson.info). The infusion of design and psychology bridges my experiences, balancing my creative self with my curiosity in the human spirit. With 20 years of relationshi

p building within the design community, my education in psychology and experience as a practicing therapist, I can offer my client’s more than a pretty room. I am able to assess your lifestyle and design goals though a unique lens that will offer you an expanded relationship with your environment and your Self. My work is concentrated in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Hollywood Hills and Santa Barbara, as well as Chicago, Las Vegas and Palm Springs.

A room with a view... And plenty of places to sit. To the left is a family sitting/media area and to the right are two barstools looking onto the kitchen. Or why not head out toward the patio to listen to the splash of the fountain?

A cool, calm treehouse... The Montecito guesthouse is an independent structure that rests on the second floor above a gym. The lush green views forbid any need for drapery. Butter covered mohair upholstery is punctuated by a chocolate espresso finish on the case goods.

The formal living room was one of the first rooms completed on this project. We built up from the William Morris needlepoint area rug mindful of pattern and texture. The sunroom was an open patio originally. Now closed in, it is an inviting extension of the living room.

So how about this for a kitchen? The client was very involved in this aspect of the project since they love food, wine and cooking. But I was able to throw my accent in with this reclaimed French iron chandelier. Everything is larger than life in person and yet feels like home whenever I am there...

This has always been one of my favorite rooms. The spectrum of influence speaks to the client and their eclectic taste. It's warm and accessible while giving that sense of formality. What a fun room to watch come together... And thank you Marcelo Lagos Photo for your photography and Eric Overholtzer for your styling eye!

The dining room and family room were completed 15 years ago! My clients sure took good care!
