I know all of you wanted to see me *actually* doing the zip line thing and not just talking about it in my last post… so here we are 🌟

Am I not looking like this was a promotional shooting for showing how much fun it is when you soar across the Atlantic Ocean on zip lines at their Ocean Outpost at Coconut Cove?

All the nervousness that built up while I got fitted for my harness and climbing up that first pole… It was GONE as soon as I was zooming on the zip lines at 18 miles per hour while hovering above the bay and the 1,200-foot circuit that extends above the Atlantic Ocean 💦

I can absolutely recommend spending a day out there on your trip to the North of the Dominican Republic. A day filled with excitement, their delicious local cuisine and of course beach time with a swim in the beautiful waters of the Caribbean will be awaiting you.

📞 The Caribbean was calling me again…
After arriving, the weather didn’t support my plans of a catamaran tour around the twin islands of St. Kitts and Nevis unfortunately 😭 so I simply did a little discovering in the port town & capital Basseterre.

After coming across quite a few abandoned houses and not too much going on within the city itself I made my way back to the ship in the brightest sunshine ☀️ intrigued to research a bit more about the island.

Interesting Findings:
🌟 St. Kitts is officially called St. Christopher with “Kit” formerly being a common diminutive of “Christopher”

🌟The island’s residents call themselves “Kittitians” - sounds pretty cool if you ask me

Emotional Support.

I haven’t seen this little cutie for about 2 weeks and it was such a mutual joy to get back together today 🥰

No, there was no out of sight out of mind going on here. And yes, you can give emotional support without the title.

Animals have such a pure and wonderful heart. You give them love - they’ll love you back. It’s mutual. It’s reciprocated. They feel your vibe and mirror it.

Imagine how beautiful life would be if interactions between us humans would be the same 💞

No questioning, no doubts. You get what you give. You invest and it’ll return. You’re taking care and will be taken care of.

Frankie was happy to share her pillow with me this evening, indulging in me caressing her and allowing myself to give her the abundance of love I have in my heart ready to shower all of those that currently & in the future hold a special place in my heart.

These are the small moments that make this a wonderful world.

Time Travel. 🕑

Today was a decluttering day for me. I’m tackling the process of letting go of some things that no longer have a place in my life.

Don’t we all have items lingering from a past period in our lives? That we probably haven’t touched in years? 💭

In my case it’s neatly stored yet no longer needed business attire and relicts from a time where my mindset was focused on priorities that are no longer mine.

Going through those items and deciding what will be allowed to stay in my life and what will be passed on creates such a sense of rejuvenation. ✨

Clearing out excess stuff makes you travel back in time discovering the (almost) forgotten things and memories connected with them. Like that pretty silk dress that you’ve worn for a special event or your once favorite piece of wardrobe that got neglected at some point for some reason.

This month it’s my goal to get rid of a significant amount of excess stuff, boosting my mental health by creating a more relaxed mind, feeling happier and more in control.

Who needs a New Years Resolution if you can have a New Month, New Week or even a New Day Resolution? Stop procrastinating and get at it Now. You’ll thank yourself later ♥️

… and for all of you wondering… yes, I stumbled across my Royal Oak as well after not even knowing where I had her packed up before my last move. Will I let her go or is she allowed to stay? I’m still a bit indecisive but I’ll probably hold on to her some more as she’s just too pretty. 🫶🏼

Every Day is a Beach Day.

Feeling so blessed and having a grateful heart for being alive and able to soak in the beauty of this planet with all my senses.

The ocean has an incredibly powerful calming effect on me. Can anyone relate?

I was lucky to discover another remote spot in the National Recreation Area Sandy Hook that allowed me to have my lunch in full peace & tranquility. 🧘🏼‍♀️(swipe for my seat and delicious food)

𝟭𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀.

That is the time that has passed since I visited Atlantic City the last time.

10 years in which 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘁 has happened.

I graduated a MBA, changed careers, succeeded a career and then ultimately gave up a career to focus on being happy and healthy.

What is a 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒓 really? Isn’t it just a constructed word? Why do we all aim for having one? Why do so many of us push through their university 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒓 only waiting for their work 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒓 to start?

I’ve reached a point in my life where I feel that word 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒓 could be deleted from our vocabulary. It seems an unnecessary construct. Something that young people hunt down only to realize later on that it doesn’t give them what really matters in life.

Wouldn’t it be much nicer to focus on 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈? On 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆? With every part of our body, our minds, our senses? Isn’t 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆 and joyfully experiencing our existence on this planet the most beautiful thing to aim for?

Isn’t that what parents, teachers and the elderly could teach the younger generation? Instead of glorifying the construct of a 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒓?

Re-visiting this place for the first time after a decade made me realize how time flies. How time is constantly running and how important it is to make the most out of the time life gives.

It made me reflect and look back, but it also made one thing very clear for me:
Use your time wisely. Now and in the future.

One day we’ll all be old and what a pity it would be if all that we could look back to would be a 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒓 that might have brought us money and recognition but we missed out on truly 𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐆 and enjoying the gift of life we got.

Cause 1 thing is certain - we can’t turn back time.

Graveyard Evening Stroll Anyone?

Yes… that’s basically what I did after crossing the border to Denmark and arriving in Aalborg… 🚂

Luckily during the summer months daylight remains bright until late late, so I used the opportunity and made my way to Lindholm Høje, a final resting place with graves dating back all the way to the Iron and Viking Age.

It is an impressive scenery especially when you have it all to yourself like I did. Sand drifts had covered the area and the stones were only excavated in the 1950s.

I also made some new furry friends 🥰 the sheep are working 24/7 to keep the grass short and I loved their company.

Who else loves unexpected animal encounters as much as I do??

The smile you make when you actually just want to fly back to the United States but end up on a quick bonus trip through Northern Europe.

Flensburg - you were a pleasant surprise! Thank you for welcoming me with the most beautiful sunshine allowing me to explore downtown and the harbor for a few hours. ☀️

𝙱𝚝𝚠 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚊𝚕𝚕 𝙽𝚘𝚗-𝙶𝚎𝚛𝚖𝚊𝚗𝚜 𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎:
Not many have actually visited this small city in the far northern region of Germany, but every single German (and when I say everyone I mean everrryone!) knows it!

𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚠𝚘𝚗𝚍𝚎𝚛 𝚠𝚑𝚢 𝚒𝚝’𝚜 𝚜𝚘 “𝚏𝚊𝚖𝚘𝚞𝚜”? 🤣

Well…
It’s home of the German Motor Vehicle Authority and if you’re getting a ticket and points for a traffic offense, you’ll “collect points in Flensburg”. 🫣

𝙼𝚢 𝙼𝚘𝚗𝚍𝚊𝚢 𝙼𝚘𝚛𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐

I was fortunate enough to start into this new week with a hike through the stunning Lotenbach Gorge. 🌳🪵🪨

It branches off the Wutach Gorge and is located right by the Schattenmühle guest house that I spent the night at.

It offers a pretty basic accommodation, but its location is simply unbeatable for hikers and the owner is super friendly. Bonus points for receiving a decently sized breakfast giving me energy for the day 💪🏼🎉

The gorge itself turned out to be an incredibly tranquil and impressive piece of nature where one can definitely recharge their batteries. 🪫🔜🔋

I was blessed with basically having it all to myself (well it was a Monday morning 🙃) and took my time “strolling” along the slopes, bridges and stairs passing by breathtaking cascades, waterfalls and natural pools. 💦

Although I’m incredibly scared of heights and cable cars of any sorts, I push myself to fight my fear from time to time. 🫣

I talk myself into the believe that taking a ride every now and then will eventually result in me being less scared or at least preventing it from getting even bigger.

The most recent time I tested my courage was by taking BAVARIA’S LONGEST double chairlift Mittagbahn with a total of 2,220m (~1,380 miles). 🤦🏼‍♀️ (To be honest I only found out about that „detail“ afterwards because I wondered why the ride took a total of 40min ONE WAY.)

Besides the magnificent summit views over the Allgäu, Lechtal and Swiss Alps, I really enjoyed seeing and hearing (🔉on!) the bells worn around the neck of the free-roaming cows grazing in the gorgeous lush landscapes.

My little secret is that as a child/teenager I was an avid collector of cow bells and had a huge range of different sizes & decorative ornaments that I mainly hunted down on flea markets.

⚠️ Did you know that the bells have specific sounds to identify different characteristics of the cow, such as age and s*x?

Now back to my first point:
Anybody here that’s also afraid of hanging in the air and shivers their way up while holding tight onto anything possible to grab? 😵😮‍💨

𝙰 𝚜𝚒𝚜𝚝𝚎𝚛 𝚒𝚜 𝙶𝚘𝚍’𝚜 𝚠𝚊𝚢 𝚘𝚏 𝚙𝚛𝚘𝚟𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝙷𝚎 𝚍𝚘𝚎𝚜𝚗’𝚝 𝚠𝚊𝚗𝚝 𝚞𝚜 𝚝𝚘 𝚠𝚊𝚕𝚔 𝚊𝚕𝚘𝚗𝚎.

My sister being 7 years younger than me allowed me to watch her grow up, being the best role model I can and trying to guide her throughout the years.

With an age gap that big, it wasn’t until lately something in my perception changed… All of a sudden she had turned from my little baby sister that I’d always try to protect and help into this grown woman that I now view equally able to guide and support me.

This was such a fantastic progress and realization! 🌟 She naturally turned into a person that I can always reach out to for advice with such positive effects on my mental health.

I cannot imagine my life without my sister and in this stage of my life I actually appreciate her more than ever. We both have become awesome grown independent women (yes, it’s ok to say that about yourself! You are awesome, too!!) and it’s so so beautiful to know that she will be there as my confidante for all the years to come.

Life can pull people apart, but I know that I’ll forever stay close with my sister! It doesn’t matter that we live on different continents with hours and hours of time differences most of the year… We’re closely connected in our hearts and that is was truly matters.

This weekend I visited my Mother’s birthplace ℑ𝔪𝔪𝔢𝔫𝔰𝔱𝔞𝔡𝔱 in the upper Allgäu, the southernmost district of Bavaria in the German Alps. ⛰

While first mentioned in the year 1275, and long being a tourist attraction, this has been my first ever visit 🥰 It felt so special to discover my Mom’s roots!!

My favorite spot in town was a set of bronze cow sculptures that displays the yearly event of the so called 𝘼𝙡𝙢𝙖𝙗𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙗 (lit. 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦).

🐮 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝘀𝗸? 🐮

All over the alpine regions cattle herds feed on alpine pastures (𝘼𝙡𝙢) high up in the mountains during summer. Then around late September to October there is usually a concerted cattle drive (𝘼𝙗𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙗) to bring them back down to their barns.

👑 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻? 👑

When there were no accidents on the Alm during the summer, the cattle are decorated elaborately for the Almabtrieb 🌿🌼 and celebrated with music & feasts. Back in the valley, joint herds from multiple farmers are sorted, and each animal is returned to its owner.

In many places this Alpine custom has today evolved into a tourist attraction with booths set up along the course selling agricultural, as well as artisans', products along with alcoholic beverages. 🥨🧀🍺

So if you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime-experience, plan a fall trip to the German Allgäu region and witness this unique tradition. 🤳👑🐄🌾

Searching for “Almabtrieb 2022” will find you the dates for many towns that celebrate the festival & the closer we’ll get to the date the more details will become available. 📆

So yes, it’s possible to not only participate in one cattle drive but plan an entire vacay around the event. 🤩🥳

Why not traveling from one picturesque village to the next one, discovering their gorgeous traditional old town centers, take their cable cars 🚠 to Alpine peaks or sail the beautifully clean mountain lakes in the area?

My contribution to the 4th of July celebrations 🎆🇺🇸

Honestly, I’ll probably never really get into these American patriotic traditions and things.

I guess being born and raised in Germany, any and all sense of serious patriotism was kinda viewed as something bad.

[Makes sense, the last time the German population was very patriotic did end in an absolute disaster. ]

Nevertheless, Independence Day is still a little special for me as it was the first holiday I experienced when moving to the US in 2012 to start my job at

My very first Wednesday at work was 4th of July and did not only help me getting acclimated in the office but also with the new US lifestyle by taking me to the best spot on the Jersey side to view the fireworks on the Hudson River. Thank you for that 🙏🏼 I’ll always be grateful for the experience Kati!

So here I am today with my donut colored in the classic red, blue & white plus of course a little pink, „celebrating“ 4th of July and wishing all my friends, fellow immigrants & patriotic Americans a lovely holiday.

🇯🇵 LOVE

Those that know me, know that I have a deeply rooted love for Japan. It’s a first-love kinda love. ♥️ A love that you’ll never forget.

When I lived in Nippon back in 2009 I was in my early twenties. 👶🏼 I was so innocently young and the world was still so different from how it is now...

I boarded a plane in Germany to this faraway land that I honestly knew almost nothing about. Curiosity was my driver. My longing for seeing the 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵, discovering the 𝘶𝘯𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘯 and breaking out of 𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 made me do it.

Time was still so different 13 yrs ago. Yes, we had the internet but it hadn’t become such an integral part of life yet (at least for me 🫣). So life in Japan was a lot about just 🆃🆁🆈 & 🆂🅴🅴, 🅶🅾 & 🅳🅸🆂🅲🅾🆅🅴🆁.

One of the things I came across on my endless trials through the Japanese cuisine was 𝗬𝗮𝗸𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶 (焼き鳥). Basically grilled chicken skewers that are great finger food & often served as singles or a set of 2 at local food markets or small back street restaurants. I remember getting those tasty bites for only around ¥100 a piece. That’s less than US$1.

𝗬𝗮𝗸𝗶 comes from the verb 𝘺𝘢𝘬𝘶, which means 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘭. And 𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶 is the word for 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘵. 🐓 So, yakitori literally translates to 𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘵.

Can you imagine how happy I was when I saw this little yakitori dish at this week? My heart jumped and I ＨＡＤＴＯ get it! I was even so excited that I immediately ate it right here & there in the supermarket’s parking lot. 🤣

Afterwards I realized they recommend to heat it up, but let me tell you it was ＤＥＬＩＳＨ just eating it straight out of the fridge (no worries the meat was cooked) what might have been due to my little nostalgia feeling. 🎌
