We’re continuing to pray for our friends and family in Haiti as they deal with ongoing fuel shortages, protests and general unrest.

And we’re still trying to decide what to do about 2020 team travel to Haiti.

Please join us in praying for this wonderful country and the decisions that have to be made. Thank you! ❤️🇭🇹

At Spero one of our goals with each trip is to spend as much money as possible IN Haiti - lodging, food, gifts, translators, etc. As we wrap up the 2018 travel year we are proud to say that, even with 2 canceled trips due to civil unrest, our teams spent over $77,000 in Haiti this year! 👏👏👏 We are so thankful for this!

Looking forward to 2019!! ❤️🇭🇹

Fun time at the Heartline Ministries - Haiti Kids Club this afternoon. They were having their community Christmas party - 250 kids, cute outfits, lots of special music and skits. Our team got in on the musical chairs game!

Oh and there was some incredible Haitian food — A LOT of it 😲

And yes, that is Kalipso wearing TWO purses 😄

Excellent article! This is why we take teams to Haiti to spend time with organizations that are dedicated to orphan prevention through education and job creation. Orgs like Heartline Ministries - Haiti, ApParent Project, Haiti Design Co, Elevate-Haiti, 2nd Story Goods, Fleri Resto, Rebuild Globally, PeaceCYCLE and many others.

Written by Tara Livesay - Director, Heartline Maternity Center When we first moved to Haiti more than 12 years ago, we were totally naive and unaware, like most folks are when they change cultures and countries. We were not an exception to this norm, and it put us in a position to learn ... a who

Spent our day in Titanyen. Our ladies visited the women’s prison with the Heartline Ministries - Haiti ladies while the men visited Extollo International. Then we stopped by Rosie's Boutique for some shopping and snacks before heading over to visit our friends at Sport Disciple.

Finished the day off with a wonderful meal at Fleri Resto and took in a beautiful Haiti sunset.

This team has learned so much about what Haiti truly needs from short term mission teams. It’s been eye opening and motivating for sure. What a treat to be here!!

Our most recent Haiti team had the privilege of sitting in on the weekly Heartline Ministries - Haiti savings group meeting. Absolutely wonderful arm of their ministry in Port au Prince.

Each week, more than 20 individuals from the Heartline family gather together for savings group. Members of the group learn about finances, save money for future needs, and contribute to a fund that provides loans when unexpected expenses arise.

Insightful, short read ... we agree with the author 100%.

"Whether we are going to participate in a ten-day mission trip to Haiti or move our families to India to advocate of behalf of trafficked women, this call we feel is a beautiful and essential thing. It is the space from which mission flows. It is also an invitation to reflect deeply within ourselves.

The team had a great time visiting Holly and the crew at Mama Zwazo. Got the full scoop on who they are and what they do - then got to make leather earrings from scratch.

More folks doing the hard but necessary work of orphan prevention through job creation 👍👏

The team visited our friends at Sport Disciple this afternoon. LOVE this ministry and how they’re using soccer to reach the Titanyen community for Christ. Such a simple idea with deep and long lasting results.

We got to hear their story from the founders and Haitian staff, then helped out with the meal and watched the boys play. Fun trip out there as always.

Our team had a blast Rebuild Globally this morning! Got a full tour and Q&A with Sarah - then dropped some serious cash in the boutique.

Proud to say that our team spent enough to meet payroll for RG for almost 3 weeks — THAT is impactful spending 👍

So proud of this Belmont University study abroad team and their understanding of the importance of job creation in Haiti.

Day 9 of 11 is in the books. Ready for more fun and education tomorrow!

Today we’re hanging out with the Heartline Ministries - Haiti discipleship team at their weekly Kids Club event. We played soccer, taught Bible stories, sang songs, fed them lunch and brought in a local shaved ice vendor for a special treat. What a fun afternoon!!

Love the spiritual investment that HL puts into this community week after week.

Yesterday the team spent time at the orphanage for special needs children with the guys from the Heartline Ministries - Haiti discipleship team.

So wonderful to see the relationship that HL has with these children and staff - and the joy that they bring on a weekly basis, sharing their time, talents and the love of Jesus.

Thank you Lumos for bringing these tragic stories to light!!

If your mission trip involves orphanage visits, please ask questions and demand answers. Don’t support this child abuse!

I became a live-in volunteer in the orphanage, having been offered the position by a US-based religious NGO. At the time, 31 children were living in the orphanage, 18 girls and 13 boys. Two of the children had minor intellectual disabilities. The children were treated poorly.

Exactly! There are SO many wonderful ways to "do good" on a short term missions trip but it requires us to set aside our preferences and what we think is right. This is especially challenging for many team members in regards to orphanage visits.

The primary goal of this men's trip to Heartline Ministries - Haiti is to spend time with their discipleship team studying the Fruits of the Spirit. What a privilege it has been to work through scripture and discuss in detail where these fruits come from and how we can help them grow in our lives. We've loved every minute with them and we're only halfway done! Bobby Farr Eric Pedro Smith Johnnathan Christian Williams Moise Medor

We have TWO open spots on the June 9-15 Heartline Ministries - Haiti trip. This is a co-ed trip that will be centered around activities with our friends at Heartline. We will also visit other local ministries and organizations, spend time shopping, building relationships with the missionaries and the Haitian people ...learning all things Haiti while experiencing the unique spiritual growth that comes from time spent overseas. Let us know if you'd like more detailed information. Thanks!
