One such pioneer was Granville Woods, referred to as “Black Edison.” Born in 1856, Woods was a mechanical and electrical engineer and inventor credited with over 50 patents. Woods helped lay the foundation for future advancements in transportation, communications, and electrical engineering while also paving the way for future Black engineers.
