End of this month there will be the new course of Vinpearl Golf Hoi An opening to the public. Just 15 km south of Hoi An this course promises to take some tension off the notoriously heavy booked courses in the Central region. It is a nice and typical links course carved into the sandy soil that requires the best from the players. A special feature are the humongously sized bunkers that further challenge the game.

Following the kidnapping of a Vietnamese asylum seeker on German soil by Vietnamese secret service, the relationship between the two countries have remarkably cooled down. Currently we have no information, what influence this story has on the 15-days visa exemption for German citizen, but we keep on carefully monitoring the situation.

On August 24, 2016 around 5.05 pm local time a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck central Myanmar; Seikphyu, Chauk, Salay, Bagan and Mrauk Oo. It is reported that 3 people were killed.

Officials from Myanmar’s Religious Affairs and Culture announced around 171 temples were damaged in Bagan, 3 temples were damaged in Mrauk Oo, 9 temples were damaged in Salay, and 7 pagodas were damaged in Sagaing area.

We contacted all clients who are currently travelling with us to make sure all are safe. We advise all our clients not to visit inside of temples and not to climb on any temples in Bagan for the time being. Some temples are closed temporarily and we will keep monitoring the situation, and will continue all our operation as usual.

In Yangon, Mandalay and other areas apart from the earthquake affected area, no serious damages occurred.

As per end of May 2016, the long anticipated direct route between Bangkok and Danang has finally opened.
The air route is operated by Thailand's Bangkok Airways with four flights per week (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat), using Airbus 319 aircrafts. Flights from Bangkok will depart at 11:00 and arrive in Da Nang at 12:35, while the return flight to Suvarnabhumi airport will take off at 13:35 and land at 15:15.

Especially for overseas travellers, this provides an an easier access to Vietnam's finest beaches.

Lately, there have been news, of Vietnam soon to be banning overnight cruises in Halong Bay. That story seem to be stemming from this linked Than Nhien News article and was picked up by journalists over the globe.
After talking to major cruising companies in Halong Bay, they reassured us, that the provincial government has not released any official plan for such an action. We don't know, where this rumour comes from but can only guess, and until there isn't any official statement from at least the provincial government, we can safely ignore this rumour, while keeping an open eye on further development.

Without much media attention a new Jack Nicklaus Golf Course has opened near the coastal resort town Quy Nhon (located between Hoi An and Nha Trang). This is particularly interesting for beach dwellers and golfers, that are seeking to travel a bit off the beaten track.

With the aim of increasing the number of foreign arrivals, Vietnam is reducing the standard visa fee from 45 USD to 25 USD as per 23rd of November. This is the rate for obtaining visa on arrival (VOA). Travellers should contact the nearest Vietnamese Embassy, to check the going rate for getting visas directly from their respective countries.

From 15th Nov 2015 through to 15th March 2016, Balloons Over Bagan will be expanding its daily service to Inle Lake with the introduction of a new premium service carrying up to 6 passengers over floating gardens and villages on the lake. To fly over the lake in a balloon has to be one of the most beautiful ways to experience one of Myanmar’s most scenic and cultural attractions. Local fishermen looking for their first catch of the day, and boats laden full of produce on their way to the market through a maze of green floating canals. Good news for some countries. As per per 1st of July travellers holding UK, German, French, Italian or Spanish passports don't need a visa for visiting Vietnam for a stay up to 15 days.

We had the pleasure to play the newly opened Vinpearl Phu Quoc Golf Course and it was a pleasant surprise! IMG layed-out challenging 3 9-hole courses, giving each course distinctive characteristics:
Nha Trang - with wide open fairways but strategically placed sand-traps.
Phu Quoc - where you play along a good amount of water hazards.
Quy Nhon - where the fairways are pretty narrowly lined with trees and thus require accurate tee-shots and approaches to not go OB.

All in all a you have to know your game well to know if you can carry the various hazards and traps, thus resulting in challenging but fun rounds of golf.

There are interesting accommodation options on Phu Quoc, boutique and intimate, ranging from 4stars to 5stars. Located in the gulf of Thailand the weather on the island is warm (30+ degrees) with no rain in the winter months. The crystal clear water makes it a perfect destination for anyone seeking for a beach extension f.e. after a round trip journey through Vietnam.

Vietnam Airlines will be switching from Gatwick to Heathrow as of 31st March for UK arrivals and departures. Furthermore this route will be operated by the new Dreamliners fleet. This is good news for anyone either flying directly or transiting in the UK.

Sky Lake Resort & Golf Club recently had a shift in management and changed from a member only club to a public golf course. With only a 60 Minutes drive outside of Hanoi, this course is easily accessible and feature stunning sights of an area also known as the "Dry Halong Bay". Currently finished are the 18 holes of the Lake Course, while the 18 of the Sky Course are expected to be opened in March 2015. This is a true gem of a course and you should try to play it while it still isn't on the map of the general traveller. Feel free to contact us for the rates.
