The Kansas State Fair was so much fun! We say this every time, but it's true...we really do love the friendships us Texans have with the Kansas and Iowa folks. And the competition is the icing on the cake!

We had some successes and learning curve moments...lol. All in all this year left us with an excitement to return. Lance Fullerton and his crew are just fantastic!

Goals are already being set and plans laid. 🤗

Thank you, Fiery Graice Imaging, LLC. for capturing these moments! ...and it was really nice to meet you(and your husband)!!

Todays events, perfectly summarized by Save Dallas Horse Carriages :

We want to express our gratitude to everyone who joined us today! It was wonderful to see you all and have the opportunity to speak with you. Your support is invaluable to the industry, and we truly appreciate it as we continue to move forward.

Today was a challenging day, but we felt the presence of God guiding us in many ways. It is truly incredible to witness the power of prayer at work. The City Council's decision to send the proposed ban back to the Quality of Life committee was a positive step, allowing for a deeper examination of the facts rather than relying solely on the narrative from the Chicago Protesters and Ban Horse Carriages Dallas.

Paul Ridley presented a compelling ordinance change that would permit carriages to operate as they currently do, and we were heartened by the support shown by City Council members. We have always strived to have a seat at the table, to collaborate and share factual information rather than succumb to the emotional narratives of the Chicago Animal Rights Group.

Today was a victory for Horse Drawn Carriages, Small Business, and the State of Texas. We eagerly anticipate working closely with the City to enhance existing ordinances and continue moving in a positive direction. Thank you once again for your support and encouragement.

More to come!

Wednesday, June 26th is going to be a day to remember and we are hoping and praying for an outcome and vote, in our favor. Hundreds and hundreds of hours spent on education, interviews and podcasts. Where time should have been given to running a business, it was spent instead, of working to defend it. This has been an emotional and mental game, that turned political. We just want to give rides. We just want to continue doing what we have been doing for almost 30 years. THIRTY YEARS of a clean safety record, happy horses doing what they enjoy and what they were born to do. Thirty years of making memories and providing a top notch service.

'We', (the whole carriage service industry fighting this fight) have been acknowledged for the way we have handled this whole absurdity. How we have remained positive in the midst of their slander; how we have desired to educate, listen to concern, answer questions from knowledge, and state facts.

We have stayed the course.

We have not wavered, not once.

Our message is clear, and we are hoping and expecting Dallas to do the right thing and cast a vote that allows us to carry on, business as usual.

We ask for your prayers as we head into tomorrow.

Thank you, in advance.

The 18th is the day.

Dallas will vote one of three ways: to ban horses in Dallas, keep horses in Dallas or vote to wait on voting. Only ONE of those votes will ensure North Star Carriage has a future. Is it unfathomable that we are even having to fight this?

YES.

Yes it is.

Brian, John and many many others have been forced to spend HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS to educate themselves in ways we're sure they could have gone a lifetime without said knowledge. Podcasts, interviews, reading, watching and fighting a battle that outsiders brought into the City of Dallas.

We are incredibly grateful for news outlets and journalists that have given time to this cause; to educate themselves and listen to the side that is being attacked. Showing up at the farm, unannounced for an impromptu Q&A session and interview.

Not everyone standing against the industry is willing to ask the questions, listen to the answers and then make informed decisions. It seems that being political and/or playing the political game to ensure the end result of their political agenda is more important than truth.

We invite you to ask the question(s) you have...you will receive truthful unbiased answers.

The pictures below hold contact information on whom to reach out to via email or phone call. If you have already contacted them, thank you. Would you mind doing it again?

We are full of gratitude to each and every person that has been a part of this journey.(hang in there with us, it's not over.) For the support you have given, from phone calls made and emails sent to council members, to showing up at city council meetings, we are deeply thankful.

One simple act we ask: could you please forward, share or copy and paste this post? Together we can keep the public in the loop. Thank you.

We are here for the fight.

14/04/2024

Hey all,
A little update on the situation with the “proposed carriage ban” being talked about in the news and on Social Media. The Quality of Life, Arts and Culture Committee will meet on Monday April 15th (tomorrow) for a follow up on the December 5th 2023 meeting. The Department of Transportation has been instructed to do research and report back about our industry as a whole, regulation, enforcement, ordinance, and speak to operators and foes (the folks that hide in the bushes and film us) alike with respect to the industry. We have met with Transportation Regulation per the Committee’s request and provided them all the information they have requested and more. Transportation regulation has also met with a Lobbyist from the Texas Humane Legislation Network for opposing views.
The Chicago Alliance for Animals and the Ban Horse Carriages Dallas, the ones who started this campaign, have chosen an extremely DARK response to this upcoming meeting. They are urging everyone to send Dallas City Council, and the Mayor, a carriage accident or Fatality news story. They have provided links for their followers to choose from. Again, almost 100% of what they have is from outside of the State/USA!
This is the equivalent of me asking for the ban of cars and posting all drunk driving accidents and fatalities. It is unfortunate these folks have absolutely no clue about Texas Heritage, who we are as a State, or any sense of professionalism.

What can you do to support:
If you haven’t liked or followed the Save Dallas Horse Carriages page, please start there. Check back for updates over the next few days. If you want to send a letter to Dallas City Council, there are multiple ways from that page to do so.
Also, pray for those that will be presenting on Monday in front of the Committee. It Is Very Important To Note: This is NOT a full Dallas City Council Meeting. This is just a Committee. The AR folks will make it sound like this is something they have accomplished and that this will be settled on Monday. That cannot be further from the truth! As we’ve been told, the Committee will decide if this needs to be voted on in order to send it to the General Council or if there is just not enough support to proceed any further. The presentation on Monday by Transportation Regulation will likely determine that. It is doubtful anyone other than the Director, Assistant Director, and maybe the Manager will speak. We are looking to have a huge show of support from operators, drivers, friends, family, and supporters in attendance for that meeting. If you are planning on attending, we are asking everyone wear black pants with white shirt and black vest (optional). This is our standard attire and it will show a sense of unity for our group.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out here, Save Dallas Horse Carriages, or call one of the companies/operators involved in this fight between right and wrong. The premise of this entire argument is 100% a question of right and wrong. This does not even mention the legalities of this conversation that we will share at a later time. These folks have a lot to learn about the culture here in Texas. Thank you to everyone for your support so far, and any support you should have for us going forward, we all truly appreciate it!

What do horses do when they aren't working, you ask?

Well...

They sleep. They eat. Let's see,🤔 they sleep and eat some more!😆🤪

They each have unique personalities, likes and dislikes. Where one might like afternoon sunbathing, another might prefer snoozing in the morning and 'horsin'' around the rest of the day; and we have a few that really prefer to hang out alone most of the time. They know their boundaries, where they are allowed to be and where they aren't!😂🫣...and YES!!, they are like children and push the envelope every chance they get.🤦‍♀️..and a-l-s-o like children, you can call their name and they know IMMEDIATELY who you're talking to and what and where they should be. It's actually pretty impressive (and humorous 🤭) to watch them scramble!! (You do want to get out of the way when they get in trouble, though. They can move rather quickly🏃‍♂️🏇 and take up a lot of space!) They develope friendships with eachother like you and I; and there will always be those that just don't get along.🤷‍♀️🤦

Our horses are curious and nosy, sweet and sassy. Rarely, will/can you walk alone in the pasture because Buddy or Ava or Mav, Rooster, Casey and a slew of others will be coming up to check out who you are and what you're doing. They want a nose pat or a scratch on the hip. Oh, let's not forget about the babies. 🤗😂, they are right up there, too! These big drafts can be ornery one second, then all up in your business, the next.🤣 Truly, never a dull moment and some of y'all reading know exactly what we're talking about! Can we say 'fence repair'?? 🫣🤪

Seriously though, they really want a job, any job. If it's not their rotation to be downtown they want to do something! They are not good at being idle, they get bored. So they work. Maybe they train, maybe they spread manure; mayyy-beee they go 'joy-riding' into town. Maybe they head out to a funeral or wedding or Quinceanara.

They truly are at their best when they exert energy. As big and beautiful and magnificent as working horses are, they just will never be good at being a pasture ornament, only. ❤️🐴
But they will always be that loyal companion that cures what ails ya and keeps all your secrets. ..🥰

Equifest, 2024

Some of the best times at a rodeo are capturing moments and making memories with your 'in arena' enemy!😆🤪 We chat, spend a lot of time laughing and catching up on life. It has really become quite the marvelous community between the Kansas folks and us; along with sprinkles of Colorado, Iowa and others.

Thanks EquiFest of KS brought to you by Kansas Horse Council for another year and we look forward to 2025!

Well, it's that time of year and preparations have been under way for competition at EquiFest of KS brought to you by Kansas Horse Council! There will be three humans and 8 horses pulling out early afternoon for a road trip full of hopes and possibilities. Mav and Rooster, Ace and Ava, Natalie and Freddie and last but definitely not least Donna and JP!
This is the second competition of the season with several more slated throughout the year. We are very excited about competing and mixing it up with our Kansas friends!

Stay tuned for updates along the way and good luck everyone.
