As many of you know, we here at Rhone Street Retreat are massive fans of – seriously, how could we not be, as the proud home of his iconic Big Bird and Chain Chomp!
So now that a brand new, highly interactive exhibit featuring original Mike Bennett artwork has opened up in downtown Portland, you can bet your bottom dollar we went to check it out.
And WOW, did the deliver! This isn’t just an exhibit; it’s a vibrant, fantastic space brimming with unbelievable original art from Mike and crew, cleverly woven into immersive and hands-on educational materials. It was a joy for all ages!
Plus, the admission even came with an incredible, full-color take-home compendium book that’s practically a work of art itself – so cool!
It was all so stunning, and honestly, there was so much depth to explore that it was a lot to take in during just one visit. We’re definitely going to be heading back soon to soak it all in again!
My two nanny littles, along with my teen boy, and I, all had a truly fantastic time. And of course, no visit is complete without a souvenir, so we excitedly picked out a brand new “SLOW” sign to add to our yard collection! The gift shop itself was a treasure trove of awesome finds.
Afterward, with happy hearts, we took a well-deserved picnic lunch at Directors Park. And what a delightful surprise awaited us there! A captivating Native American storytelling hour taking place, beautifully put on by . It was such a heartwarming and unexpected bonus to an already perfect morning.
It just goes to show how many cool, enriching things are constantly happening in our city. We feel so lucky to live in a place with so much creativity and community spirit!
