It's been a long time since updates, and for that, we apologise. Allow us to catch you up!

After just shy of two years travelling around Australia in a 4WD and Hybrid Camper with our two young boys, we returned home to Perth in late August 2024 to surprise our friends and family.

The memories made are more than a lot of people will ever experience in a lifetime, and for that, we're extremely grateful.

There were mixed emotions coming home, but we had ideas and plans, and were excited for a new chapter in life.

From the get go, its been beyond busy tidying our house to sell, looking for a new full time job, searching for a new place to live and then making the swap.

Our kids went back to their old school for one term, before we made the move south away from our tiny 380m2 block to a much bigger property which we've completely fallen in love with.

Oliver and Cooper start at a new school in February, and we're busy working on our new place with lots of fruit trees to go in.

We sold our Lifestyle Reconn R2 with more than a thousand nights under its belt only a few weeks after returning, and again had mixed emotions.

So, what now?

Well, we're settling into a new norm, with plenty of things to do at home, and the beach not too far away. We will get a new camping setup at some stage in the future, but the itch to head bush is only occasionally surfacing right now.

Our blog is still live, but we've had a significant hiatus for two reasons. The first is Google has destroyed our years of hard work, with visitor levels down about 85% from what they were in 2023. This makes putting in hours on an already busy schedule hard to stomach!

The second reason is that we've really been too pre-occupied to do much on it anyway. There's dirt to spread, chickens to look after, fences to fix, a new shed to set up, retic to sort out and we'll be looking for a 4 legged companion in the near future.

That said, we will get back into it, and we've been testing some new products that you'll see posts on soon enough, with lots of content still to finish off from our lap.

Beyond that, who knows. We might see you out there, and we hope you're all doing great!

Truma Hot Water Systems are pretty popular in the caravan and hybrid market, but they don't always have the best reputation. I was almost ready to throw ours in the bin with flame out issues.

Here's our full review -

We’ve been running a Truma Hot Water System for 3 years now, and its great except for one major issue. Find out more here.

Despite our best research, there were still accessories we fitted to our Isuzu Dmax that I got wrong. Fortunately these were few and far between, and it remains largely unchanged since the original build.

However, here's what we did get wrong:

5 years after building our Isuzu Dmax for touring Australia, its time to reveal the things that we got wrong, and why.

Bigger tyres are always better, yeah? Well, no, and there's actually a heap of reasons why they're not always a good idea at all:

Fitting bigger tyres to your 4WD should not be done without a bit of thought into what it causes. Find out more here.

I'm a big believer of function over form, and if you're thinking about getting a catch can, here's our experience between HPD and Provent:

I’ve been running my own, independent test between a HPD catch can and Provent 200, to see what performs better. The results are chalk and cheese.

Milk can be a bit of a problem when it comes to getting off grid. We've tried long life, powdered and buying fresh milk where possible while on the road.

Today, we do a combination of both. What's your go to for milk?

When you are camping, fresh milk isn’t always an option, so what can you do? We’ve started using powdered milk, and are fairly happy.
