BDPA exists to advance the careers of African Americans in the IT industry from the classroom to the Educating the next generation is important to BDPA.

BDPA Cincinnati originated 25 years ago out of concerns that minorities were not adequately represented in the information technology industry. BDPA provides education and from the classroom to the boardroom” for students, professionals, entrepreneurs and our community. BDPA has a strong relationship with the Cincinnati Public Schools to entice high school students to participate in our Student In

formation Technology Education & Scholarship (SITES) program. BDPA has decades of experience in training tomorrow's workforce to compete more effectively in the global marketplace by training them to use technology as a tool. The SITES program is an intellectually challenging program that builds self-esteem through the mastery of applied computer science. We create a foundation for academic and career success. SITES trains our youth to use technology as a vehicle to learn skills and concepts beyond the technology itself. In essence, it bridges the gap between long-term educational approach of the classroom and short-term skills experience of the workplace. BDPA Cincinnati chapter conducts this youth education training over a nine-month period that concludes with the top five students competing in the National BDPA High School Computer Competition for college scholarships and prizes. The program is open to 8th-12th grade students from the greater Cincinnati area. The students are not required to have prior computer training. Another component of our SITES program is our Computer Camp (www.bdpa-camp.org). BDPA Cincinnati trained hundreds of students since the programs’ inception. Following successful completion of the program, SITES scholars continue to hone their science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills in college and in the workplace.

Each year BDPA trains high school students on technology related topics to help them prepare for college and careers in STEM. BDPA offers a series of technology learning experiences for students.

The programs run from January through August and offer training in Web Site Development, Smartphone Applications, Visual Basic Desktop Applications, Automation Controllers, 3D Printing, Robotic Applications and The Internet of Things. Your generous donation will help provide food and refreshments for the students during their courses.

An advanced website development course runs concurrently. This course will help students compete for scholarships at the National BDPA High School Computer Competition in Atlanta August 1-3. Classes will be held at Cincinnati State Technical College on Saturdays from 9:AM to 2: PM.

Your generous donation will support 476 student lunches!

Summary
Business and government leaders are on constant alert to protect an enterprise against cybersecurity attacks that can compromise systems, steal data and other valuable company information, and damage an enterprise’s reputation. As the volume and severity of cyber-attacks grow, the need for cybersecurity risk management grows.

Message from HSCC Parents (Dale and Amy Harrigan)

Dale and Amy Harrigan are the proud parents of two remarkable children -- Hadiya and Hasani Harrigan. Hadiya was in the BDPA Student IT Education & Scholarship (SITES) program for five years. She won a number of awards including the NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Award in 2014. She is currently attending Tuskegee University. Her brother, Hasani has been in the program for the past three years, winning a number of awards, including a 5th-place HSCC scholarship at the 2014 national HSCC championships. Dale and Amy share their thoughts on the BDPA Cincinnati program.
