Summer days in Tenerife ... 🍹🏖

On Friday, July 26, a new edition of the gastronomic event 'Sensations, Summer Flavours' returns to the central square of El Médano, from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

With the participation of the catering sector, bakeries and artisans of the municipality and the wineries of the Wine Regulatory Council of Abona and Valle de Güímar. All of this, is enlivened with eight hours of live music.

Every so often I like to go up to Mount Teide ... the landscape's always a little bit different depending on what flowers & plants are in season ... I like to drive past the cable car station and further on to the El Portillo visitors' centre, where you can see the inside of a volcanic tunnel, learn about different types of lava etc & watch the short film of Guayota, the spirit who has lived inside Teide for 180,000 years (or so he says!) & how Teide was created. I normally then go outside to wander round the gardens which house specimens of 75% of the National Park's species, as well as labs with germination chambers and genebanks. The gardens receive international backing with the aim of supporting the recovery of endangered plant species. It's free to go in! To finish off, it's nice to have lunch either at the El Portillo restaurant or back at one of the restaurants on the way back to the cable car. Here are some photos of my recent visit 😀

What a beautiful day it's been here ... perfect for sitting in the garden in the sunshine - keeping well hydrated obviously! - BBQ ... maybe a cocktail 🍹as the sun goes down, followed by a whirlpool bath. Sounds like a perfect day in my book!! 🏖 😃 We have availability through the summer so why not come over and enjoy a holiday in our traditional Canarian village of San Miguel de Abona ... plenty of restaurants & bars to choose from but without all the hustle & bustle of the tourist areas ... 😁 PLEASE LIKE AND PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR FAMILY & FRIENDS ON FACEBOOK ... Mmm, we are so lucky to have this restaurant on our doorstep here in San Miguel! Plus their sister restaurant, Las Gangarras, a 15 minute drive away for an alternative experience 😃 just a word of advice, portions are large! Bread & dips are good, they also do queso blanco & blueberry jam as an alternative to the traditional mojos. Can highly recommend the pork with caramelised onions and their specialities are savoury pastries with several fillings to choose from. This restaurant has won many awards in the Ruta de la Tapa, and well deserved. Lovely atmosphere, lovely staff ... we have been eating there since our arrival in Tenerife 20 years ago so give it a try one day! 😀 Oh, and don't forget to finish off with a barraquito 😋

¡Feliz día de Canarias! Happy Canaries Day! The Day of the Canary Islands (Día de las Canarias) is a public holiday in the Canary Islands, Spain, on May 30th each year. This date commemorates the autonomous Canary Islands Parliament's first session on May 30, 1983, and also celebrates the islands' culture. Many towns & villages hold events with traditional customs like tastings of local produce and displays of Canarian dancing, stick dancing, Canarian wrestling etc.

Received a lovely 5* review from French guests Elodie (love that name!) and her partner Rémy who also sent me these wonderful photos from their early morning walk up Mount Teide 😍 "We had a great time at Val's place! The house is extremely well equipped and the terrace is absolutely superb 😁 The hot tub after the hikes was a must as well as the barbecue! We were greeted by Val's companion with whom it was a great pleasure to chat Thanks again for everything" 🤩

Short but sweet 5* review from our Portuguese guests who checked out earlier this week. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet them as I was away but Emlyn looked after them well and said they were a very nice couple 😊 "Stay very calm, warm whirlpool bath ideal for the evening. Kitchen with everything it takes to make small meals. Hosts are always available to help. I recommend the restaurant La bodega San Miguel very nice" and a private note saying thanks for always being available and responsive" 🏖😍

Great 5* review from our UK guests Denise & Quentin who stayed with us for a month from mid-March to mid-April 🤩 "This little house was absolutely perfect in every way. The kitchen was amazingly well equipped as was the rest of the house and garden. Nothing had been forgotten. The outside area was quiet, sheltered and bigger than it looked on the photos and we spent a lot of our four week stay there. We would thoroughly recommend this delightful place."

Great review from our French guests Aline & Simon who stayed for a week last month with their 3 year old daughter - "A beautiful cozy nest for a great holiday. Everything is organized to make you feel at ease in this beautiful house. Everything is there: amenities, comfort, cleanliness, little touches… The setting is really nice. We particularly enjoyed the outdoor space with the hot tub. We were welcomed by Val and her husband who are charming people, always listening to us and who give us good advice. First snow of the the year on Mount Teide! It must be chilly up there!! ❄️❄️ The presence of a DANA (a DANA is a cold drop - more info by clicking this link - https://www.gearrice.com/update/what-is-a-dana-and-why-are-so-many-formed-in-spain/ ) in the Canary Islands has brought snow to Mt Teide, even though Spring officially began on Wednesday, March 20th. This is the first snow on Teide this year and highlights the diverse weather the islands can experience.

At the beginning of the week, there were pre-alerts for forest fires, then the Met Office activated weather warnings for rain, winds, and storms (which are still in force today), and today we have snow!

Precipitation isn’t only just rain, the DANA is bringing a mix of weather to the archipelago, including snow…

Got a great review from our lovely Italian guests Carlo & Antonella who stayed with us for a few days recently 🤩🤩 - Val and her husband, they are nice and kind people. The house is very nice and clean, it is in a very quiet area, not far from the sea. There are restaurants near the house where you can eat very well. Very pleasant stay. We will definitely be back

Val e il marito son persone simpatiche e gentili. La casa è molto bella e pulita, si trova in una zona molto tranquilla, non lontana dal mare. Vicino alla casa ci sono dei ristoranti dove si mangia molto bene. Soggiorno molto piacevole ci torneremo sicuramente

Popped into the farmers market (Mercado del Agricultur) this morning as not been for a while. There wasn't a huge amount left at just before 12.00 but managed to get some broccoli, leeks, aubergines, courgettes and lettuce 😀
