This inquisitive adolescent seal was quite interested in us in the early morning at Horsey Gap, moving up along the path to get a better look at us.

As always, our workshop participants kept their distance and used 500mm+ lenses to help protect the wildlife.

Brrrrrr! It's cold on the Norfolk beaches at the moment!
So how do these adorable newborn Atlantic Grey Seals keep warm until they start to put on enough insulating fat? The secret is their white fur, called lanugo, that has layers of densely packed fine hairs that trap air next to the skin, acting as insulation. The fur is also coated with water repellent oil to help protect them and prevent that insulating air escaping.

The yellow colouring from the amniotic fluid and the still fresh umbilical cord signals that this pup is quite young. A watchful mum was just out of frame to the upper left.

Hard to imagine this cute little one can grow to over 2m in length and 150-300kg (330-660lb) in weight!

Some lovely light at the Quiraing, Isle of Skye.

As we walked back to the vehicle, the sun broke out and the tour clients scrambled for their cameras for another photo of this incredible dramatic landscape. 📷🤩

This beautiful Altlantic Grey Seal pup is one of the 40% of the world's population that make their home on the UK's coast.

Taken with a 500mm telephoto lens to not disturb the wildlife.

The first Atlantic Grey Seal pups of the season were born last week at Horsey Gap.

We have just a few tickets left for our tour on the 23rd-27th of November, where we have pro telephoto lenses available so we don't disturb the gorgeous seals.

Did you know?
A seal pup weighs around 14kg when born.
A female's milk contains up to 60% fat, helping the seal pup to gain about 2kg in weight every day.

Eilean Donan Castle at dusk.

Some happy clients last night. 😃
With wind and rain forecasted for The Isle of Skye, we drove over the Skye Bridge and onwards to Dornie, where the weather was better. Would have liked less wind for a better reflection but always an amazing sight!

In 1791 the castle was held by Spanish Jacobite supporters who withstood bombardment from three English Navy frigates thanks to the walls of up to 14 feet. Eventually captured, along with 343 barrelsof gunpowder, the castle was blown up. After laying in ruins, reconstruction was begun in 1911 and is now a world-renown visual splendour.

The Fairy Glen, Isle of Skye, Scotland

Currently guiding a sold-out tour on the Isle of Skye & Glencoe. Today we're off to the natural rock formation, Castle Ewan, in what has become known as the Fairy Glen.

Throw in sunrise at the Quiraing, some waterfalls, and sunset at Neist Point, it promises to be a fantastic day of photography!

Glowing Stonehenge.

I took a group to Stonehenge for some astrophotography as the forecast was clear for the evening. Unusually, all of the forecast apps were wrong, sadly, but we were gifted with some stunning colours behind the ancient Stones at sunset. 😃

Kilchurn Castle, Scotland - early morning reflection with mist.

Built in the mid-1400s, it commands an imposing presence on Loch Awe with the remains of the 5-story tower overlooking the water..

Excited to be returning to the Scottish Highlands (& Isle of Skye) next month with a sold out tour. 😀

The ever-stunning Bodiam Castle in East Sussex yesterday morning at sunrise. With the hope of some mist on the water and pink in the sky from the forecasted high clouds, I stuck around from doing some astrophotography for sunrise.

To this Australian who used to dream as a child of seeing such sights in person, it is always magical each time I visit. 😍

Built in 1385 to protect from the risk of French invasion during the Hundred Year's War, Bodiam Castle is one of the most picturesque castles in Britain.

Excited to have been interviewed by one of the world’s oldest photography magazines, Amateur Photographer (est 1884), and to have my photo featured in an article about how to photograph the UK’s most photogenic monuments.

My subject? Stonehenge! :-)

The shot was taken back in 2019. About time for another go at the shot this spring I think. This time with a star tracker.

The Trooping of the Colour has marked the official birthday of the British Sovereign since 1748.

This is an extra special year due to it marking the Platinum Jubilee (70th) year of reign for Queen Elizabeth II.

We stand in awe of the power of nature.
