The Utopia of the Seas: High-energy fun on Royal's new, short-cruise ship, the newest & largest ship on earth, starts sail 7/19/24

The 236,473 gross-ton vessel is the second-largest cruise ship on Earth, smaller than the Icon of the Seas. It can carry 5,688 guests at double capacity, but its claim to fame is that it will only sail short cruises: Three-day weekend and four-day weekday jaunts out of Port Canaveral to Royal's private island in the Bahamas, Perfect Day at Coco Cay (the four-day cruise also calls in Nassau). The short-form nature of these cruises encourages Royal (and passengers) to squeeze a lot of energy into a relatively brief period. Royal is embracing it, and it is marketing Utopia as "the world's biggest weekend."

In the wake of the devastating Maui wildfires, Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort will host "Aloha For Maui," a benefit concert with 100 percent of entry ticket sales going directly to the Hawai‘i Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund.
Aloha for Maui will take place on the resort’s Great Lawn, providing an evening of unity and support for Maui, on Saturday, September 2, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The concert will bring together Na Hōkū Hanohano award-winning artists Sean Cleland, Sean Na’auao and Natural Vibrations as they unite in support of Maui relief efforts and community healing.

Though we all may love this beautiful island, for the time being...If you're planning to travel to Haiti in the near future, the US Department of State is strongly encouraging not to do so at the moment.
The agency has just issued a Level 4 travel advisory for the country, which officially labels it as a "do not travel" zone. The reasons behind this are many, including the threat of kidnapping, crime, civil unrest, and poor healthcare infrastructure.

I recommend that first-time visitors stick to one island, there is plenty to keep you busy on any one island. If you prefer island hopping, local companies like Robert's Hawaii, make it easy to visit multiple islands with ease. Flights are short, 40 - 50 minutes each way, so you won't spend too much time in flight. If you start early enough, you could decide to go to an island for the day and return, rather than staying the night. It's simple to book a fly/drive package, or an overnighter package without breaking the your budget.

If time allows, I suggest at least 4 nights on Oahu and 4 nights on Maui, with a side day trip to Lanai from Maui.

If your plan is to visit the Big Island of Hawaii, there too you will need at least 4 days. Remember, it's a big island, there will be a lot of driving but well worth the trip.

Whatever you decide, take the time to research, ask questions and talk with the experts.
